This course is designed to prepare you for studying our BA (Hons) Business Management degree. Business careers offer limitless possibilities. Whether youve got ambitions of holding high-profile roles or setting up your own company, we'll help you gain the right skills to get you started. It will help you develop the skills and knowledge you need to study for the full honours degree, even if you dont currently meet the academic requirements. You'll develop your study skills including academic writing and personal and professional development to start you off in the best possible way for your degree. You will learn more about business in a global and national context, and approaches to leading and managing in organisations. The foundation year also gives you the ability to develop your analytical skills and learn how to incorporate data to add real value to achieve organisational objectives. Once youve passed, youll be ready to start your degree course. That means your degree will take four years, or five years if it includes a work placement or year studying abroad.

Career prospects

Your foundation year is only the beginning of your journey to a successful business career.

Its a stepping stone that will prepare you for a full BA (Hons) Business Management degree course and all the opportunities this entails.

With our focus on practical career skills youll have the confidence step into the business world in your first role after graduating. Our graduates go on to a huge variety of roles in organisations ranging from small local start-ups to large firms like O2, KP Snacks, or BNY Mellon. Many decide to join graduate schemes with companies like IBM or BMW.

You might want to run your own business when you graduate. With the optional Business Creation unit as part of the full degree course, you can get started during your studies, networking with other entrepreneurs while you work at our on-campus start-up hub Inno space.

If your ambition stretches beyond the UK, youll have a great head-start at Manchester Met. You can choose to study a language or take a year abroad at one of our partner institutions like University of Economics, Prague or IESEG in Paris. Thanks to the global focus of the course, your skills will be relevant anywhere in the world.
