This course covers the fundamental principles and practice of archives. We teach archives by focusing on the core principles, theory, and practice that underpin this discipline. Our focus is very much on a mix of the theoretical and the practical. You must be working or volunteering in an appropriate professional environment both prior to and throughout your studies so you can apply what you are learning. You will gain knowledge of the management of archives and the ability to apply this knowledge in the public sector or in commercial or specialist environments.
Topics covered include:
You’ll receive a lot of online content right from the start and benefit from our flexible teaching model that allows students to take semesters off and learn from subject experts.
Professional accreditation
All CAIS programmes are accredited by the UK Archives and Records Association and The Records and Information Management (RIM) Professionals Australasia
Careers:
The PG Cert will enable you to work in the archival sector, perhaps as an archival assistant, for example, but it is not the professionally-recognised qualification. The Archives and Records Association stipulates that the professional Postgraduate qualification is the Postgraduate Diploma or Masters.
