Our Master’s builds on everyday experiences with technology to help you understand, evaluate and assess the core theories and emerging developments underpinning the field, then apply your learning to real-world problems.What will you study? Studying our Applied Computing and Information Technology with Project Management MSc course will equip you with the core knowledge and skills around programming, computer science and information technology. You will learn about one of the most essential skills required by a computing student and that is programming. In our Programming for Applications unit, you will analyse problems and develop programs to solve these problems using case studies on real-world applications.In other areas of study, you will be introduced to Data Modelling, Management and Governance methods and techniques alongside database theory. This unit will equip you with the knowledge to use the appropriate tools to build database systems using industry standard software and apply these systems to your chosen field of interest. To diversify your skills further, our unit in Computer Networks and Security is relevant to a wide range of career pathways including software development, business and risk management and cyber or data security. This unit will introduce you to core principles of cybersecurity while providing you with the fundamentals on how computer networks operate. How will you be assessed?You are assessed in a variety of ways. The majority of units are assessed through coursework group and individual projects portfolios essays presentations or exams. Presentations are usually given and assessed in the context of a group seminar. You will also produce artefacts in the area of your specialism. Constant feedback and advice from a supervisory or unit team will be provided to support you in your work. You will progress from well-defined briefs to more open-ended and challenging assessments which culminate in your major project - the MSc Project where you will be given freedom to choose your area of work. The feedback on your submitted assessments will be provided within 15 working days. The lecturers are expected to take every effort to provide you the feedback as early as possible before the next assessment if any. If you fail an assessment and need to retake or resit the assessment you can do so in the next available opportunity which is normally in the assessment week of the next block. If you fail a unit and need to retake this unit you can do so when the unit is run again. CareersThe critical theoretical analytical and practical skills of this degree will prepare you for a range of careers.You could progress to a career in management supervision database/IT development or system design/analysis. Specific roles might be IT consultant IT manager systems developer and programming supervisor.
