You’ll receive a grounding in biological and zoological science before progressing to study more advanced zoological topics.The programme will equip you with the practical and transferable skills for a rewarding career in biological and zoological sciences in Scotland or abroad.UWS’s highly qualified and experienced team will deepen your understanding of bioscience and zoology and the range of career options and professional accreditations available to you upon graduation.Programme highlights• Field work is a key feature of this course, with a number of day trips and a residential marine biology field trip in Year 3.• Students have undertaken placements at organisations such as Blair Drummond Safari Park, Amazonia and Scottish SPCA.• Lectures from industry professionals will help you to understand how you can transfer and apply theory in real-world situations.• This programme is fully accredited by the Royal Society of Biology and upon completion you will meet the academic requirements to be an Associate Member.Programme detailsYou will study a wide range of bioscience and zoological topics in the early stages of the programme including biodiversity, animal behaviour, humankind and the biosphere, and vertebrate physiology. Later stages of the course focus on specialisms in animal diversity, aquatic ecology, conservation, entomology, parasitology, and wildlife biology. In your Honours year you will undertake an extended laboratory or field-based research project working closely with researchers in the school.CareersThis programme will prepare you for a successful career in zoological or biological sciences.Employment is diverse and could include careers such as:• Countryside ranger• Pest control professional• Zoo keeper• Environmental impact assessor• Research• TeachingSome graduates pursue further study, including UWS’s MRes in a zoology-related topic.
