Agriculture with Farm Business Management (with Placement)

Ward block is outdated and students are suffering with mould. We struggled with hot water for 2 weeks in the winter. But the social life is good and opportunities for clubs and societies.

I really love where Harper Adams is located and all the lecturers having worked in the industry are so helpful and inspiring to enter into the industry. I do feel however some issues that have been reported (for a number of years) aren’t acted on. There is the platforms to bring forward issues but so far I feel there has been very little actual action taken on issues brought forward. Things such as course module issues and facility problems.

Great if you don’t really like city life, and when you come from a farming/ countryside background, the location really makes it feel like home. The fact that you are able to go on farm and how every week you have smaller groups doing tutorials and practicals makes it much easier to get to know lectures and ask questions rather than always being in a lecture theatre. To improve the uni - more parking is required as lots of people have to drive in - more support on assignments, I.e keep reminding about the assignment in terms of what they are looking for or more in depth briefs - A lot of talk about what goes on about socials, this can make it difficult to get people to sign up to clubs due to being afraid

The grounds are beautiful all times of the year. Lecturers are all very helpful whilst giving additional time and support if required. Accommodation is clean and well thought out. Improvements - parking

The best aspect of my university experience has been the strong balance between academic learning and real-world agricultural application. The teaching at Harper Adams is very hands-on, and the lecturers genuinely take the time to support you and bring industry knowledge into every module. I’ve really enjoyed the practical sessions, farm visits, and the opportunity to apply theory straight away. The sense of community is also a big positive — everyone knows everyone, and being involved in clubs like Harper Women’s Rugby and Harper Cymru has made the experience even better. The most challenging aspect has been managing the workload during busy periods, especially when multiple assignments fall at once. However, it has pushed me to become more organised and confident in my time management. Another area that could be improved is access to certain facilities during peak times; practical spaces and study rooms can get busy, which occasionally makes it hard to find somewhere to work. Overall, Harper is a great place to study because of its supportive environment, practical learning style, and industry connections, and the challenges I’ve experienced have ultimately helped me develop useful skills.
