Course Details
The University of Bolton has a 'Teaching Intensive, Research Informed' ethos. We aspire to offer postgraduate student-focused courses that inform best practice in teaching and learning, underpinned by the research knowledge of our high-quality staff.
This contemporary and stimulating stand-alone module supports you in building expert mentoring knowledge to advance the professional development of education staff and enhance the learning experiences of mentees at your institution. Our welcoming team of highly experienced, professionally and academically qualified staff will support you in reflecting on the differences between coaching and mentoring and guide you as you develop an in-depth understanding of planning and implementing mentoring schemes. Together, we'll explore the roles of motivation and communication in effective mentoring, including dialogue, listening skills and feedback, and discuss the ethical considerations that can impact mentoring.
With our support, you'll explore and evaluate theories and models related to mentoring processes before considering approaches to mentoring in a specific educational context. We'll guide you as you critically analyse the mentor and mentee relationship to improve the latter's learning experience.
Normally, you'll have successfully completed an honours degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject, and have appropriate work experience.
