While Computer Science traditionally contains a lot of theory, our approach is very applied, and you’ll be encouraged to think about problem solving in an industrial context.
Drawing on expertise from within the School of Built Environment, Engineering & Computing, you’ll be directed and motivated to work on advanced concepts in computer science, including for your dissertation.

Our state-of-the-art facilities provide the foundation for developing your passion for computer science into skills and learning for life. You’ll perform practical work in sandboxed labs with full administrator access and our own Cloud infrastructure with remote access to software. To help with your learning, you’ll also have access to Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure.

TEACHING & LEARNING
Independent study is a crucial part of learning at university and you will be required to undertake many hours of self-directed research and reading, and preparation and writing of assessments. Your course is delivered through a number of modules, which will help you to plan your time and establish a study routine. Outside of your lectures, workshops and tutorials, a range of support is available to assist with your independent study. Our subject-specific librarians will be on hand to direct you to the specialist learning and study-skill resources. You’ll also be assigned an academic advisor to give you tailored feedback and support.

Applicants should either have at least a second class honours degree in the cognate subjects of Computer Science, at least a second class honours degree in a non-cognate subject supported by evidence of an aptitude for the subject applied for, or have equivalent experience or training, normally from within the work environment. All applications should be supported by a reference, either academic or professional.
