Key information

We offer both an MSc Advanced Clinical Practitioner programme and an MSc Advanced Clinical Practitioner Apprenticeship programme depending on your funding route. These interdisciplinary postgraduate courses will prepare you to become a competent and confident Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP).

Course overview

Benefits of this course

Our MSc Advanced Clinical Practice and MSc Advanced Clinical Practice Apprenticeship programmes aim to develop your skills, knowledge and capabilities as an Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) within your specialty, sector or setting.

The programmes have been designed to meet the four pillars of advanced practice:

  • clinical practice
  • leadership and management
  • education
  • research.

You will have the opportunity to work within your practice or other healthcare settings and learn from lecturers who are experienced advanced clinical practitioners actively engaged in clinical practice.

Teaching and assessment

You will learn through a variety of student-centred and patient-focused methods aimed at developing and assessing different knowledge, skills and attitudes.

This will involve shared learning across different disciplines as well as specialty-specific studies.

You will usually attend lectures (face-to-face or on-line) one day a week and consolidate your learning through your working practice for the rest of the week.

Career

These MSc programmes are designed to develop you into a competent and confident Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) and to equip you with a range of transferable capabilities across the four pillars of ACP.

On successful completion of the programme, you will be ready to undertake an ACP role within your speciality, sector or setting. In some specialities, sectors or settings (such as emergency medicine) additional training and/or credentialing is required.

Future career options include senior ACP, trainee consultant and consultant practitioner roles, senior leadership roles, clinical educator roles and research roles.
