University of Liverpool

The University of Liverpool has a brilliant mix of academic support, a lively city atmosphere, and genuinely inspiring teaching, especially in creative and design-based subjects. The campus feels welcoming and well-connected, and there are plenty of spaces to study or meet people. The downside is that some facilities feel a little dated, and communication around timetabling or admin can be slow at times. Overall, it’s a great place to study, with a strong sense of community, but it would benefit from smoother organisation and continued investment in student spaces.

Supplies for my course are very expensive and I end up spending a lot of money. Could be improved by a student supplies shop with student discount.

Best aspect is how friendly and easily available everything and everyone is. Perfect place to start your independent journey. Worst aspect is having to get the bus from Greenbank, and how far the second and third years live from the university.

I think the university's sense of community is the best aspect of my experience in uni so far. There are spots where you know you'll feel a sense of belonging. Or comforting routines that make you feel integrated into the university. For example, on Tuesdays, the pop-up food stalls offer authentic food stalls. Or the occasional record sales that also take place in the University Square. Being able to (when the weather is warmer) sit in Abercromby Square, either on the benches or on the grass, with friends. Just the hidden gem and beauty of the courtyard behind the Victoria Building are enough to de-stress me. All of these factors serve as a reminder that the University of Liverpool is an esteemed Russell Group university. This fact shines through every aspect of life on campus and in education. Though as much as I'd like it to be, it is not perfect. Linking back to the aspect of education, I feel as though the school's reputation can at times be a double-edged sword. There is an assumption that the merit of students who are able to attend the school is enough to assume they will be self-sufficient in understanding modules or areas of study. In my personal experience as an Architecture student, there is a lack of consideration for students who do not have certain skills. These skills are assumed to be universal, and as a result, are not even taught. In terms of the teaching mode in my course, there is a severe lack of educational support for the specific software necessary to do well. I have been made to feel that, instead of other students being ahead from the outset, I have simply been far behind in terms of skill level. I am specifically referring to the studio module, which we have every semester. I feel that while we are pushed to do the best we can, the key resources to do so are not necessarily provided. As well as this, the supplementary modules could also be taught in a more versatile way, with the option of seminars. In terms of my general university experience, it is not that great because there are few flexible on-campus part-time jobs that would allow me to support myself better while I live in the city. Overall, I love the university, but these are issues I have noticed and sometimes lamented.

Its a great university, try really hard to keep us all upto date with everything and enhance our likely hood to suceed. The city is amazing, location is so close to town centre. Pretty good
