Overview

Successful completion of this new MSc Adult Nursing blended learning course enables graduates from a range of backgrounds to enter the nursing profession in just two years. The course is comprised of 50% clinical placement and 50% academic learning. The blend of 95% online and 5% face-to- face academic learning aims to provide you with the flexibility to study from any location for the majority of the course. The 50% placement time will include 20% in a simulated learning environment which is also designed to allow you to undertake this from any location (subject to a suitable Wi-Fi/Internet connection).

The MSc Adult Nursing blended learning course is a two-year programme designed to respond to the current challenges in healthcare and the complex healthcare environment where advancing technologies, contemporary research and new knowledge influences and impacts on nursing practice. The course is aimed at individuals with a prior undergraduate degree and evidence of experience in health and social care. Previous undergraduate degrees may include (but are not limited to) health-related disciplines, psychology, criminology or sociology degrees. Upon successful completion, in addition to eligibility for NMC registration (application and additional costs apply), you will also graduate with a Chartered Management Institute (CMI) accredited qualification in Global Professional Development in Coaching and Mentoring, if that module is successfully completed, and you will have the opportunity to apply to become a member of the CMI.

The course is fully accredited by the UK Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and on successful completion you will be eligible to apply for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. The course currently includes the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) accredited module, Global Professional Development in Coaching and Mentoring - Students who successfully complete the CMI module and meet the CMI evidence requirements will also gain a Level 7 Certificate in Coaching and Mentoring.

Course information

The MSc Adult Nursing blended learning course aims to develop your skills and knowledge for the Adult Nursing field, related to the complex care issues around the mental, physical, cognitive and behavioural impairment and other co-morbidities with which patients present in the healthcare environment.

The programme aims to help you develop the knowledge, expertise and evidence-informed practice required to meet the needs of the patients’ lived experience, which embodies today's nursing and healthcare practices. It also gives you the opportunity to develop your digital skills so that you are fully equipped to work in the growing, technology based health care sector.

How you'll be assessed

All assessment methods are aligned to the MSc Adult Nursing blended learning programme objectives, and the learning outcomes of each module are designed to reflect the programme objective. The theory modules include a range of different assessment methods, such as critical appraisal essays, presentations, viva-voce (oral test), reports, practice assessment and the service improvement dissertation.

A Practice Assessment Document (MYEPAD) and Personal Development Portfolio (PDP) is designed to enable you to provide evidence for the acquisition of the core clinical nursing skills and field-specific skills.

Career prospects

Successful completion of the course is a strong indication to potential employees that you have both the ability and the academic characteristics required for working in a variety of clinical Adult Nursing settings.

Entry requirements

Applicants for the MSc in Adult Nursing blended learning should ideally hold a good honours degree of 2:2 or above in a health-related study. However, applications with other degrees and relevant care experience will also be considered on an individual basis. You will also need to demonstrate 460 hours of providing care which would normally qualify as practice hours by the Nursing & Midwifery Council. Care encompasses meeting the physiological and psycho-social needs of the physically ill, mentally ill, and disabled people of all ages, in all healthcare and other community settings. It includes activities such as washing, dressing, feeding or toileting of an individual, as well as nursing intervention procedures. This must have been you will also require GCSE Grade 4/C or above in English and Maths.
