The HNC in Accounting provides learners with the full range of knowledge and competencies to provide a wide range of entry and promotional pathways in accountancy-based roles. The HNC also provides progression to further academic and professional qualifications either before taking up an accounting position or in parallel with it.

The specific aims of the course/group award, based on market need and/or subject research, are as follows:

  • provide knowledge and skills for entry-level employment in accounting and finance roles
  • provide progression to accounting or related degree qualifications
  • provide progression to professional body qualifications
  • develop and integrate a range of contemporary vocational skills
  • develop knowledge and skills to support routes into self-employment
  • provide optional routes to facilitate local industry needs and specialisation
  • promote values of sustainability and corporate and social responsibility
