I find the location, community and campus feel very peaceful and relaxing, and the education provided is good quality and varied. There could be more support for students who struggle to fit in with the student body, e.g., more help and encouragement to join societies or opportunities to socialise with peers.

My university experience has been very positive overall. The teaching staff are knowledgeable, approachable, and genuinely supportive, which makes a big difference academically and personally. The course content is engaging and relevant, with a good balance between theory and practical application. I’ve also really valued the sense of community — there are plenty of societies, events, and opportunities to meet people from diverse backgrounds, making it a welcoming and inclusive place to study. The campus facilities and resources, particularly the library and online learning platforms, have been extremely helpful.

Lancaster University is a great place to study because its smaller campus and city size create a strong sense of community that is often harder to find at larger UK universities. While Lancaster may be smaller than many institutions, this is actually one of its greatest strengths. The campus environment and the close-knit nature of the city foster a safe, welcoming space where genuine friendships are formed and meaningful communities develop. This sense of belonging makes it easier for students to settle in, feel supported, and engage fully with university life. Alongside this community feel, Lancaster offers a high standard of education. Lecturers are passionate and approachable, teaching is research-led, and there are valuable opportunities for academic development and independent research. The university provides a supportive environment in which students are encouraged to grow not only academically, but also professionally and personally. I have consistently felt supported throughout my studies, including during my year abroad on placement, where I remained connected to the university community despite being away. If there is one area for improvement, it would be ensuring that any changes to curricula or modules are more directly informed by student input. While it is understood that final decisions sit with the university, students should be central to discussions about module content and structure, as we are the primary recipients of the teaching. Feedback on the success, relevance, and impact of modules should play a key role in shaping academic offerings. Overall, I have had a very positive experience at Lancaster University and feel that it provides a balanced, inclusive, and supportive environment that enables students to thrive.

It provides an awesome environment and it is multicultural university which makes it unique. For residences, university should have more residences for PhD students so that students can take benefit from it.

The university has great teaching quality and lecturers truly spend time with each student, getting to know their skills and how to support them. Societies could do with some extra pizazz as there aren’t many general ones, though they are run by students so you and your friends can start one! The library is a very calming space, especially silent study on the top floor, I find it best to focus there. There is always seating available on this floor - middle is busiest. The student union is quite bad because it’s small and basically just toilets and a cafe, there isn’t much space inside at all and doesn’t act as a student hub. Holgate feels more like the student union somehow. Support is always available both study support and well-being support with around a 1 month wait when I visited (short compared to the 3 months at my previous university). Extensions on assessments are well-allocated if you are struggling in any way. Emails are responded to suitably quick as you would expect. Massive downside is the lack of parking for commuting students. They give out more permits than spaces (or so it looks) and I can never get parked. Majority of York is permitted and car parks extremely expensive. Added parking space is a must. All in all this university is still 100 times better than my first university where I dropped out due to constant errors and lack of support despite being a Russel group uni. If you want good teaching and support, come to York St John. The staff is the best thing here.

There are lots of beautiful and great places to study on campus. There are also lots of places depending on the type of studying you want to do. Our Su are pretty active in making changes for people which is great. The student support can be a bit lack-luster and there are not many staff to run it and therefore it can take a while to get a response. Accessibility is not great with weird paths and such creating a long and challenging route for those using a wheelchair.
