What students say about neuroscience

My university experience had its highs and lows. The best part was the supportive academic environment, with passionate lecturers and plenty of resources like well-equipped libraries and study spaces. The vibrant campus life, with diverse clubs and events, made it a great place to meet people and grow personally. However, there were some downsides, like the high cost of living and occasional administrative delays, which could be frustrating. Improving affordability and streamlining student support services would make the experience even better overall.

What students say about neuroscience

I find the amount of support from academic to international and student representative support so immense and it made coping and adjusting to the new environment very easy. The uniskills and library services here is top notch and staff here are very helpful and give guidance when needed. One thing that can be improved is creating more part time job opportunities for students especially international students.

What students say about neuroscience

I’m really enjoying my time at NTU! The academic environment is fantastic—lecturers are passionate about their subjects, and the courses are engaging and well-structured. There’s plenty of support available, whether it’s academic help, career advice, or mental health services. The social side is also a huge plus! There are so many societies, sports teams, and events that make it easy to meet new people and get involved. The campus itself is a great place to study, with modern facilities, good libraries, and plenty of study spaces.

What students say about neuroscience

There are excellent lecturers and student support services (particularly academic skills). The campus has a good feel and has a lot of outdoor seating which will be nice when the weather is warm. Lecture rooms are good but the seats are very uncomfortable. There is little impact from the students' union, for example there was no 'refreshers fayre' for January intake students, which also impacts the student life score.

I've loved studying at the University of Plymouth so far! Staff are really friendly and have always been really happy to help. The SU is great for relaxing between lectures during the day as well as for clubbing on a Saturday night. I'm also really enjoying my course and Plymouth is in a great location to try out fieldwork in different habitats.

What students say about neuroscience

Some of the bathrooms and classrooms are a bit outdated. So it would be nice if they were modernised. It's a good place to study due to it's location and the fact that there are lots of well advertised opportunities available, as well as plenty of support from both students and staff in all aspects of student life.

I've always felt that the University is welcoming and organic in the sense that the people here are genuine and pleasant to be around. I enjoy going to the Library to study, it provides me with the needed environment to keep me focused on my work. The staff are always happy to answer questions whenever a student presents one, which only makes the University more productive and engaging.

The best aspects of the University of Southampton is the great opportunities, e.g. societies and guest talks. I love going sailing on the Solent every other week and frequently running around the beautiful common. Similarly, new guest come to talk about their roles and how to get into their roles which is very beneficial for career development. There are no bad aspects that I have experienced so far.

What students say about neuroscience

The University of Hertfordshire has great facilities, but there are quite a few unnecessary procedures that could be streamlined, such as booking appointments for even the smallest matters. My experience so far has been disappointing from an academic perspective. I was expecting better quality education, but instead, most of the lectures consist of simply reading from PowerPoint slides, and the practical sessions have been far from engaging. While I understand that self-study is important, not all students, especially international ones like myself, have prior industrial experience or expertise. It's crucial that the university recognizes this and provides clearer, more detailed information about the curriculum, how exams work, and what is expected in terms of assessments. Relying solely on self-study and putting too much responsibility on the students isn’t fair, especially when we're paying for a quality education.

What students say about neuroscience

One of the best aspects of studying at Middlesex University is its incredibly diverse and inclusive environment. You get to meet people from all around the world, which really broadens your cultural perspective and helps you build global connections. The lecturers are approachable and genuinely supportive, especially when it comes to academic or career-related guidance. However, one area that could be improved is the ”Unihelp” side — sometimes responses from certain departments take longer than expected. Overall, Middlesex is a great place to study if you value diversity, practical learning, and a friendly atmosphere.

Studying neuroscience

During a neuroscience degree, you’ll learn about the anatomy, development and function of the brain and nervous system, and how they affect the behaviours and emotions of human beings. You’ll likely touch upon topics like brain dysfunctions and conditions, addictive behaviour, cell biology and the sensory system, picking up industry-specific skills in the lab, as well as data handling techniques. Neuroscience graduates commonly go into further study or research roles, but other possible job opportunities include working towards becoming a neurologist, neuroscientist, clinical psychologist and science writer or lecturer. If you want to study a challenging degree which can lead to a lucrative and respected career, neuroscience might be for you.
