Student Union is very good and have very handy services for a range of needs (+1 star), even down to advice or signposting you to appropriations sources of help within the uni (+1 star). It has a nice range of societies, student-led and all unique; having only joined societies in my second year, I can say being a part of them definitely does improve student life to a noticeable effect (+1 star). Food on campus in the Fusion building can be a pricey - however, food served in Dylan’s Bar and Kitchen in Poole House is actually nice and prices are fairly considerate (+1 star).

My university experience had its highs and lows. The best part was the supportive academic environment, with passionate lecturers and plenty of resources like well-equipped libraries and study spaces. The vibrant campus life, with diverse clubs and events, made it a great place to meet people and grow personally. However, there were some downsides, like the high cost of living and occasional administrative delays, which could be frustrating. Improving affordability and streamlining student support services would make the experience even better overall.

Chester, a charming city located in the northwest of England, offers a distinctive and enriching experience for students, making it an ideal destination for higher education. The city combines the best of both worlds: a rich history and modern educational opportunities, creating an environment that fosters academic achievement and personal growth. From its prestigious University of Chester to its vibrant cultural and historical landscape, Chester presents a unique setting for students to study, live, and thrive. At the heart of Chester’s appeal as a place of study is the University of Chester, one of the oldest institutions of higher learning in the United Kingdom. Founded in 1839, the university has evolved into a leading educational institution, providing a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and research programs across various disciplines. The university’s focus on academic excellence is evident in its strong reputation for delivering high-quality education, with many programs designed to equip students with the practical skills needed for success in their chosen fields. The university boasts modern facilities, including state-of-the-art lecture halls, research labs, and libraries, which create an ideal environment for learning and intellectual development. In addition to this, its emphasis on employability ensures that students are well-prepared for the workforce. The university’s strong industry links provide students with opportunities for internships, work placements, and collaborative projects, which help them build practical experience alongside their academic studies. The smaller size of the University of Chester compared to larger institutions means that students often experience more personalized attention from academic staff. With smaller class sizes, students are able to engage more closely with their lecturers, benefiting from individualized feedback and guidance. This fosters a deeper academic relationship and enhances the overall learning experience. Moreover, the university has a strong commitment to supporting students, with services that include academic tutoring, career counseling, and mental health support. These services ensure that students feel well-supported throughout their academic journey and have access to the resources they need to succeed. The tight-knit community at the university also promotes a sense of belonging, which is a key factor in student satisfaction. The university’s student union plays a pivotal role in fostering this sense of community by offering a range of extracurricular activities, societies, and clubs. Whether students are interested in joining academic societies, engaging in sports, or participating in creative arts, there is something for everyone. These opportunities not only help students make new friends and form lasting connections but also allow them to develop skills outside the classroom. In addition to the University of Chester, the city is home to several other academic institutions, further enhancing its status as a center for learning. The city’s educational landscape is diverse, with specialized institutions focusing on areas such as business, healthcare, and the arts. This diversity means that students have access to a broad range of academic programs, ensuring that they can find a course that aligns with their interests and career aspirations. Furthermore, the city’s compact nature makes it easy for students to navigate their academic and social lives, with university buildings, student accommodations, and various amenities located within walking distance of one another. This ease of access contributes to Chester’s reputation as a student-friendly city, where students can focus on their studies while also enjoying the vibrant social life that the city has to offer. Beyond academics, Chester offers a rich cultural experience that enhances the student lifestyle.

The best parts are definitely the location as it's easy to get to from the train station with the campus looking very professional when you arrive. At the start of the year, I had student counselling, and it was amazing. The support was fantastic, and although the wait times were fairly long, it was definitely worth it. Excusing the IT support, the facilities that are provided are above standard, clean and perfect for ease of use. IT systems and the Student Union is barely noticeable. Whenever lecturers need to access something, they have to fix the IT system themselves because IT refuses to do any work, or only knows how to make a keyboard work. Thing that we need to actually complete our work are not installed on the PCs even after the lecturer has asked them to be added. It's a recurring pattern that has been happening since the first year, and it seems like it won't be stopping anytime soon.

Comfortable, warm and quiet places to study. The library is chilly, also would be better with desk lights. Best aspect is my personal tutor is really helpful. Worst aspect is the university does not track when people just scan and leave for attendance, and those people are still doing that.

As an architecture student, the facilities are really great. There are so many possibilities of materials, workshops, and machines, and it feels like I could make everything I would ever need in the architecture labs. The Marylebone campus feels welcoming and a great place to study if you get to the library and the non-silent study group area early enough. The only thing I would say is, the mental health/wellbeing facilities could be vastly improved. There isn’t counselling available, if a student needs to talk to someone on campus, there isn’t a safe space for that person to go to. It is an online system where it can take up to a few months to get help via the university. Therefore, if you are a student who has mental health struggles, I could strongly recommend having a support system outside of university or going to an another university that has better mental health facilities in place.

A smaller campus in comparison, which allows for more focus per student and easier to gain support. Great for resources, such as the library, study areas, CELT and tutors. Lessons however can sometimes be heavy on with content knowledge

English Language degrees focus on the way in which English has evolved over time and so while it might seem like an easy degree to study, students will delve into the finer points of spoken language. This includes syntax, lexis, grammar and tenses as well as historical and social context. Career opportunities are plentiful with an English Language degree. Teaching in primary and secondary schools are common career paths, but graduates may also pursue jobs in journalism, marketing and public relations.
