Limited amount of shops in Lincoln, which makes it get a bit stale quick, but is still a lovely city with plenty of things to do. Another downside is the fact it is in the middle of nowhere, you have to get trains or coaches if you want to go anywhere else. However, it does have everything you need as a student, with a good night out as well

Studying MSc Cyber Security at Nottingham Trent University’s Clifton Campus has been a largely positive experience. One of the best aspects is the campus environment itself. Clifton offers a modern, spacious setting with plenty of green areas, which creates a calm and focused atmosphere for postgraduate study. The facilities are well maintained, and there are good study spaces for both independent research and group work, which is particularly important for a technical course like cyber security. The MSc Cyber Security course is strongly practical and industry-focused. The modules cover key areas such as network security, ethical hacking, cryptography, digital forensics, and secure systems. A major strength of the course is its emphasis on hands-on lab work rather than purely theoretical learning. The practical assessments help develop real technical skills that are directly relevant to industry roles. Many lecturers bring industry experience into their teaching, which makes the content more applied and aligned with current cyber security challenges. Another positive aspect is the university’s focus on employability. There are careers workshops, CV support sessions, and networking events that help students prepare for the job market. Guest lectures and industry engagement opportunities add further value and help bridge the gap between academic learning and professional practice. However, there are some areas that could be improved. Clifton Campus is located slightly outside Nottingham city centre, so commuting can sometimes be inconvenient, particularly during evenings or busy periods. Although transport links are available, more flexible or extended services would enhance the overall student experience. In addition, while the lab facilities are good, access can be limited during peak times. Extending lab availability or expanding specialist cyber security resources would further strengthen the course. The programme provides a solid foundation in core topics, but offering more advanced or specialised modules in areas such as cloud security, advanced penetration testing, or malware analysis could make the course even more competitive and future-focused. Overall, Nottingham Trent University provides a supportive and practical learning environment for MSc Cyber Security students. With improvements in transport convenience, lab accessibility, and deeper specialisation options, the experience could be even stronger.

De Montfort University in Leicester is considered a great place to study because it offers a supportive learning environment, innovative block teaching, strong career and placement support, modern facilities, and a diverse student community in an affordable and vibrant city. Students benefit from accessible lecturers, practical industry-focused courses, extensive societies and extracurricular opportunities, and good wellbeing services. However, it could improve by ensuring more consistent feedback quality, strengthening industry engagement even further, and enhancing small campus facilities and overall student support to make the experience even smoother for everyone.

The lecturers I have I cannot fault! The English and Education studies departments are wonderful. However, being a commuter and a 3rd year student, I don’t feel a part of the community. I feel that commuters are not as supported as we could be by the university as we are not always kept in the loop. Since the name change it has felt very hollow. I’m not sure how the places to eat on campus are expected to stay where they are considering the prices of food and drinks! Should be more budget friendly - in year 1 it used to be full most lunchtimes, now it’s extremely quiet when I have been in (even at peak times). Thankfully there is a volunteer based event in the chaplaincy every Wednesday where staff and students can get something to eat and a warm drink. What is now called ‘The Hub’ (learning development centre) used to be situated in the centre of campus, everyone knew where it was and despite being a small team, the space was utilised, now they are in one area of the cornerstone building and it is open plan - not ideal if your not a confident learner. As a group of people, this university is extraordinary for knowing who you are and what you need - I feel some of the business decisions have dimmed a lot of the sparkle this place has had in previously years.

As a student at Derby, there’s genuinely a lot to like about the university. The facilities are really strong (4/5). The libraries are modern and well-equipped, there are plenty of study spaces, and the course-specific facilities – especially labs and specialist rooms – are well maintained. You can usually find somewhere comfortable to work, and the technology available for students is reliable. Student support is also one of the standout areas (4/5). Tutors are approachable and helpful, and there’s good academic support if you need help with assignments, writing, or managing workload. The wellbeing and careers services are useful too, especially when it comes to planning for placements or graduate jobs. Student life is probably the best part (5/5). There are lots of societies and events going on, and it’s easy to get involved and meet people. The atmosphere feels friendly and welcoming, and there’s a good balance between studying and social life. The location (3/5) is decent but not amazing. Derby is affordable and fairly convenient, but it’s quieter compared to bigger student cities. If you’re looking for a huge nightlife scene or lots of big-city attractions, it might feel a bit limited. Similarly, the campus look and feel (3/5) is good in places but not perfect. Some buildings are modern and impressive, while others feel a bit dated. It’s comfortable and functional, but parts of campus could benefit from refurbishment to make everything feel more consistent.

Northampton university is amazing when it comes to inclusiveness. I feel like I am being supported in the ways I need to be. This is complemented by how amazing the lecturers are and how they make every class fun and interesting. However there are several flaws. The lack of student study spaces that are quite and actually available is hard to come by there is also tbe issue of not having wifi that reaches all the classrooms. Most of the week I am out of wifi range so am unable to use the resources I need to study on campus.

Loughborough itself is very boring but it has a brilliant community. It is near to Nottingham which has a better night life for that side, but Loughborough has a charm and lots of pubs... I would highly recommend Loughborough as a place to go to uni. The student union has significantly gotten worse since being here, it feels like it serves itself not the students. they have gotten rid of the art shop, a crucial service for creative students due to it not making enough money (surely that isn't the point in offering a service), they are also difficult to deal with for things relating to societies and clubs.
