The best aspects of the University of Southampton is the great opportunities, e.g. societies and guest talks. I love going sailing on the Solent every other week and frequently running around the beautiful common. Similarly, new guest come to talk about their roles and how to get into their roles which is very beneficial for career development. There are no bad aspects that I have experienced so far.

The university often hold different types of activities for students to participate, which allows students to get together and meet more new friends. Also, it is convenient to have a Costcutter on campus and a LIdl within a 10 min walking distance. Meanwhile if student needs help and went to the student hub, it often take a long time for queuing up to seek help.

The staff and students around the campus are always so welcoming and friendly. It really makes me enjoy where I’m studying. I think something that could be improved is the university’s response to student based issues.

I find the location, community and campus feel very peaceful and relaxing, and the education provided is good quality and varied. There could be more support for students who struggle to fit in with the student body, e.g., more help and encouragement to join societies or opportunities to socialise with peers.

Best experience: a lot of student space when studying out of hours Worst experience: Student food is very expensive, it is well known that most students can not afford luxury goods, as most are not dependent on their parents but are not able to have a full time job, yet to have a nutritious meal you need to spend like you have money, majority does not have the privilege to enjoy two nutritious meals a day and the access we have to food in the university does not help

LIPA is a prestigious institution with a lovely feel in both the building and between students. The staff on the Applied Theatre and Community Drama course are excellent and mainly still practicing facilitators and directors in the field. So gaining their knowledge has been very useful to my practice. However, I have always felt a sense of frustration within the institution as lectures have professional experience but seem to lack teacher training. I never felt prepared for written work as criteria wasn’t broken down or explained. All staff on the course within my third year are part time which has been a challenge when trying to contact or ask for support. Unfortunately, Applied Theatre is no longer being taught at LIPA therefore, concerns me and my cohort have raised regarding the organisation and the teaching don’t seem to have been taken seriously. I believe that every course should have at least one full time member of staff. And I also think that the student voice at LIPA (who are mainly full time students) should not be solely responsible for student queries. More members of staff in this area should be present and around with office doors open and accessible to all.
