There are various places across campus for studying so I can always find somewhere. The library is a very useful facility and the on campus coop. The Thursday fruit and veg and food stall market is a wonderful thing to have on campus for plastic free fruit/veg and an array of international foods. There are such a wide range of societies to try and find an activity to do aside from studying. This year a lot of thought has gone into providing affordable food to students and the microwaves in student opportunities are an excellent addition. It is always worth working harder to improve sustainability by reducing wastage on campus. Recycling is not the way forward. Of course this needs to happen but there needs to be a reduction in things printing/food production etc in the first instance and then reuse where possible. There should definitely be effort put in to seasonal and locally sourced food for things that are served on campus and all meat and animal products need to be sustainably sourced from an RSPCA assured supplier as a minimum.

All my university years have been affected by the pandemic, particularly my second year when we were online a lot of the time, but with a blended approach towards the end of the year. This worked well in my course although I appreciate the in class learning that is happening now in my final year. Whether content is online or in person, I have always felt it has covered everything I need to know and effort has been made to help us understand. There are a lot of modules with a good amount of interactive learning and activities to consolidate lecture material in a guided manner. My dissertation supervisor is invaluable and other lecturers are always there to provide additional support with their own expertise. Often being a smaller course, we get to know each other and our lecturers well in Animal Science, making for a friendly, relaxed and supportive atmosphere.

I was in Wessex in my first year before spending my other years in private accommodation with friends. Wessex was on campus and close to buildings, the lake and buses into town. My room and kitchen were a good size. Improvements have been made to the toilet/shower facilities since my first year and other changes have probably happened but I am confident it is even better than when I left it. The only reason I scored safety and management a little lower is because my friend faced an incident with damage to her bedroom door which I feel could have been dealt with considerably better to assure her of her own safety in her own room. I, however, had no such problems.

Some facilities seem to be working well enough but lack the continuous upkeep for them to run smoothly - for example the coffee machines tend to be mostly unkempt.

Lecturers and teaching quality varies, especially in the art department where there isn’t much contact with professor throughout the week. Course hours for art can also be very long winded.

Wantage is a beautifully conserved building, however because of this some facilities tend to be older and there has been issues with heating, plumbing and asbestos.
