University rating
Tell us about your overall university experience so far.
Even though I've only just had my first term here at BIMM.. I have to say that it's been the best decision yet.
BIMM is a great all rounder with so much to offer every single student! I feel I've come such a long way in a matter of weeks and can't wait to carry on with the rest of the year after Christmas holidays!
Facilities
How good are your university's facilities?
This Uni is really brilliant, with great classrooms, full of needed and appropriate equipment. They have some top of the range things that you can use. Although I wish they had their own studios and rehearsal rooms.
You can still work around this as there are plenty of rehearsal rooms you can book out with your band, around Brighton. It would be useful if they had their own though!
Student support
How good is the support offered by the uni? Think both academic (tutors/feedback) and personal (counselling, etc).
The student support at our Uni is fairly good to be honest!
If I ever need anything, they are always there to help.
Even when I tried to submit my first essay on Moodle, if accidentally only submitted it as a draft. They called me up to check that it was correctly submitted and I managed to do it correctly, just in time for my deadline!
Students' union
What do you think of your Students' Union in terms of student representation and facilities?
Within our students we have reps, many of which do seem helpful and keen, although, as I've only been there for a term, I've not experienced a massive deal of it yet!
Local life
Is your university in a good location in terms of distance to accommodation and local amenities?
Brighton is absolutely fantastic!
There is always something going on in the city 24/7 literally!
Nightlife is brilliant and there's always plenty of outrageously wonderful people that you meet!
It's full of open mic nights, karaoke nights and gig opportunities.
Plenty of shops you can try and get jobs in too!!
Societies and Sports
How would you rate the variety of societies/sports?
I will say that I've not noticed anything about clubs and societies at our Uni, but there are always things going on to keep you entertained! Like the masterclasses and things like that!
Lecturers and teaching quality
What do you like most and least about the way your course(s) are taught?
The course I study is the professional musicianship - BA1 vocals. They do many more like drums, guitar, bass, music business, event management, music production ect. They have so much to offer at BIMM and have a great deal of success stories like Tom Odell, George Ezra, the kooks and many more!
The lecturers are absolutely fantastic! They know what they are talking about, with the bonus of the fact that they have been there, done that and got the t-shirt! Many of them are still active musicians and many are still well in the 'loop'.
Career prospects
How does your uni make efforts to increase your employability (careers department, work placements, transferable skills)?
Having a job in the music industry is a tough one to get into, although with their guidance and help, there's no reason why any dream should be unrealistic or too great to achieve!
At the end of the day, as long as you work hard, listen, socialise and keep practicing, there is no reason why you shouldn't do well.
University halls
What do you think about the safety, condition, location and cost of your accommodation?
Even though BIMM Brighton doesn't have on campus accommodation, there are still plenty of places to live! They have a lady who helps you find accommodation around Brighton, even though privately renting, it's still a great way to find somewhere. I managed to grab myself a fantastic home full of BIMM students right on the sea front! It's ideal!
