The Social Work (MA) course at the University of Gloucestershire (UOG) offers a captivating and dynamic learning experience for all involved. The university offers a wealth of hands- on experience and various methods of study in order to improve and develop learning and application to practice. The best aspect of UOG involves the application of knowledge into practical applications when participating in simulations. The simulations offer methods of applying the knowledge you have learnt from the lectures into life- like situations. There is clear progression from the Social Work (MA) degree moving into practicing professionally. This course seeks to assist students in bridging the gap between university and beginning employment and offers a safe place in which to practice and learn. The University also has excellent support services for students requiring extra support, whether that be financially, socially, for mental health services or for academic support. The ‘help zone’ as it is referred to is easily accessible and offers support to all students who may require it. The ‘Oxstalls’ campus is situated in town and is conveniently close to many retailers, pubs, restaurants and facilities. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time so far at Gloucestershire university, I have made many friends along the way and the lecturers have always been very approachable and supportive in terms of my studies and any extra support needs. The night life is also very popular in Gloucester, there are many popular venues to explore and many societies to join that will make you feel apart of something special.

The best aspect of my course includes the hands- on, classroom- based learning style. The course caters to all types of learners and offers extra support to anyone who may require it. The lecturers are easy to get ahold of and always go the extra mile to support students. The Social Work (MA) course offers blended learning and involves a 70 day placement in the first year, and a 100 day placement in the second year. Lecturers at the University of Gloucestershire equip you with the knowledge, skills and tools required to effectively transition from being a student to working within a professional role.

The location of the University is central to town and so it’s very convenient in being able to pop into town on your lunch breaks. Gloucester is a thriving city and offers plenty of part- time work opportunities if you are looking to work around your studies. Gloucester has many shops, restaurants, good transport links, a brilliant night life and also, a beautiful cathedral.

I liked the en-suite bedroom and shared kitchen as you had an equal balance of privacy and space. The university were very accommodating in assisting students to settle in and also offered boxes filled with surprises! I liked that security was 24/7 and so any concerns, they were available. The location of the Halls was central to town and a 5 minute walk to the university campus which was very convenient.

Placement options could have been better. Also physical experience in level 1 would of prepared us better for level 2. Lecturers all lovely, nothing is ever to much for them.
