I am not based on campus, but my experience as a primarily online PhD student has been positive.

The teaching quality across the group modules in Part 1 was excellent. It equipped us with the necessary skills and knowledge for the more independent work required in Part 2 (thesis).

What makes Lancaster University a great place to study? Lancaster University provides high-quality teaching, strong research support, and a supportive academic culture. The collegiate system creates a strong sense of community, and excellent library and digital resources enhance learning and research. How could it be improved? Administrative processes could be more streamlined, particularly for part-time and international students. Greater flexibility in accessing services and improved communication across departments would further enhance the student experience.

As a part-time PhD student on the Technology-Enhanced Learning programme, the course is delivered primarily through a blended model, combining online engagement with periodic in-person sessions. This approach works well for part-time study, offering flexibility alongside meaningful academic interaction. Contact with supervisors and lecturers is generally strong, with regular meetings, responsive communication, and access to online research seminars and training sessions.
