I love Portsmouth Uni. I rate student life a little lower because the clubs in Portsmouth are dying. I’ve lived here all my life, and the nightlife was much better before I started uni! The campus is great, sometimes hard to navigate as a first year but that’s not anyone’s fault. I’m used to it now! The buildings are nicely maintained and warm too. There seems to be lots of amazing societies, although I’m not involved in any. The freshers days are amazing and I love attending. The games and freebies are good, it’s such a fun time. One thing that can be improved is my course. It can be so vague, so irrelevant to the topic, and disorganised. The modules in first year honestly sometimes didn’t make sense. There is also a strange thing which ALL lecturers do when you first meet them. They spend lots of time (multiple lectures) talking about themselves and essentially bragging about what they have achieved. I understand that they feel they need to prove why they are good role models and teachers to us, but it is not needed, when we have all come to university to learn about our chosen degree, not the lecturers. At some points, I feel I could write an autobiography on them, better than I could write the upcoming assignment. It’s funny!

The course is disorganised, irrelevant and extremely frustrating at times. I can really tell that there is no specified curriculum and that lecturers can teach what they like. I once had a lecture, in the Child and Youth Development module, about how to speak Hungarian (the lecturer was from Hungary). She also in the same lecture put on a YouTube video about American accents. I can assure you there was no link to the content or topic. I was waiting for the moment where I realised she had a plan for the lecture and it would all link in to the topic, but no. I have complained a few times, and I hope things will be better for the next co hort.

Portsmouth University is a welcoming and friendly university! Being first year I was extremely anxious and nervous about starting and how I would adjust back to academic life. However Portsmouth has shown nothing but amazing things, all my lecturers are extremely nice and always so reassuring when they speak. I greatly value the teaching staff and there methods of teaching as I've enjoyed myself so far within the first term and hope to continue to feel like this! the facilities they offer are amazing also from the university library to ravelin sports centre!
