It is a friendly and well equipped campus. I like that everything is there on campus, and that it is located in the countryside. Having to travel by car or bus to the nearest town is slightly annoying when it comes to needing to get shopping etc. However the university itself is great, the lecturers are very approachable and informative, and the student life is great fun with regular social activities.

All of the course is taught in person, with a mix of lectures and tutorials. there is a good amount of teaching time. Some of the lectures could perhaps be a bit shorter and more involved as sometimes I struggle to stay totally focused for the full hour 50mins.

Room is decent sized and in a good location. Kitchen however needs to be better equipped as although we are catered during the week, there is nothing to cook with on the weekends other than a microwave which isn’t ideal, and often means i’m spending more money on food at the weeks

The community at such a small university is amazing. Everyone knows each other and all of our buildings are within 10 minutes walk of each other from the furthest point of campus. I love that the food we have on campus comes from our working farm and the animals we have on campus. The use of these animals for practical learning is so important to my understanding of the content and applying it to real life is invaluable! The facilities we have for veterinary training are high quality and we have everything we could possibly need. The support from staff is the best part of university life. There is a member of staff to help with literally anything you could possibly think of and nothing is too much. The knowledge and experience of the staff teaching us is incredible and I don’t think I’ve ever had a question that can’t be answered. The only thing that immediately comes to mind that could be improved are more plug sockets in lecture halls so everyone has access to plugs. When we have 3-4 hour sessions in the same room, we need them!

There’s a large amount of practical learning which is so much better than being stuck behind a desk learning theory. You can visualise things so much better and actually get to put the things you’ve learnt into practice. Timetabled sessions are much better than they used to be and feedback as been acted on so there aren’t huge gaps between session. I really enjoyed my placement year so I could apply my knowledge in real life and it helps me understand the role I’ve been training for even better. My only criticism would be the lack of plugs in lecture theatres

It’s incredibly remote and without a car you will need to reply on car sharing or the university’s shuttle buses. I’ve never seen public transport around here in my 5 years of attendance. It’s not a bustling city but that’s what makes it so special. It’s so peaceful around here and you’re surrounded by nature. Newport has the atmosphere of a seaside town in the middle of the country with lots of independent businesses and pubs. Anything you can’t find in Newport, HAU provides.
