It's such a positive and helpful environment. The only downside are the massive hills!!

They're very helpful and open teachers. We get decent contact hours in small lectures, alongside our larger modules.

There's a great community, in a great place. Good value

Exeter has great libraries for working in - the main library is amazing as it is really close to my accommodation and has floors specifically for quiet study. It's really easy to read and wrote essays there. Also, there is a smaller, less well-known library next to my flat which is very aesthetic; the amount and variety of libraries at Exeter is amazing. However, one thing I have noticed at the library is that finding a seat is sometimes difficult- perhaps Exeter needs to install more places at their libraries? Other amazing aspects of the university are the shops and cafes onsite - for example, the forum shop is always really beneficial for me when I have early morning seminars. This is because I can easily grab breakfast there if I missed it on that day. The food is rather expensive. but that is a global issue affecting every University, so I don't think anything can be done about that. A personal issue I have found with Exeter is my timetable - the majority of my lectures, and seminars, are in the early morning, located on top of a hill. Many other students have also complained about this. Yet again, this is another problem that can't be easily fixed by the university, but it is annoying to be forced to traverse hills at 8 am on a Wednesday. The timetables are also sometimes inconvenient for students, and I know a few of my friends have been missing some because the locations or timings of their classes isn't appropriate for their sleep schedule or their other priorities (i.e. jobs, clubs, if they live in town it is not always possible to arrive on time for classes due to public transportation difficulties)... I believe more leeway should be given.

Lectures are engaging most of the time, and I appreciate the recording of lectures and how we can access the powerpoint afterwards. Seminars are interesting and more useful in the learning process, but aren't recorded which can be irritating if a seminar is missed. Also, seminar PowerPoints being emailed out is really useful for catching up on notes and doing revision. The course hours are surprisingly short for my course, but I think that works well for me because I like doing independent reading, research, writing etc... It is quite a shock going from A-Level English to Degree English, especially with writing your first essays, and so I think that issue should've been highlighted more within the beginning lectures and seminars. The office hours are really beneficial for getting extra help with essays and readings. I have gone a few times now and found it really helpful. However, it is quite difficult to understand lectures at times; many professors fly through complicated theories and ideas without really explaining them, which is frustrating. The course content is really interesting and I enjoy doing my reading, however some aspects are complicated and I believe need more time to be explained by the lecturers and seminar teachers.

I like having a bathroom to myself - personally, it's a lot more convenient and stress free for me. I think it is rather expensive but it is a nicer accommodation, where I have an ensuite, a double-bed, and catering throughout the academic year. Therefore, I think it's worth it (as long as you make the most out of it!). I like being on the top floor of the building as the views are much nicer, and it's quieter. Especially as someone who needs a quiet space to study and sleep. The internet is surprisingly good as well. However, there have been several issues with faulty kettles, leaks from the roof, hot water not working etc... It is university accommodation though, so it is not going to be perfect. I think the safety of my accommodation is pretty good; we each have our own keys for our rooms, and we can lock the door as well if necessary.
