OVERALL UNIVERSITY RATING
Tell us about your overall university experience so far.
I have loved every minute, of both the social life, the people and the course.I found that there always so many events on, such as disney night in a club. The lectures are lovely. The course in particular, is amazing, in terms of how practical it is and the content. I am also very looking forward to starting placement next week.
Job Prospects
How does your uni make efforts to increase your employability (careers department, work placements, transferable skills)?
They provide lots of days on placement which gives us as students lots of experience. They also have skill sessions and workshops, and seminars and lectures. We don't have many lectures in comparison to the others and the course is very practical and the lecturers try to act out what we would do in the future and give us ideas and ways of dealing with situations.
Course and Lecturers
What do you like most and least about the way your course(s) are taught?
The practical element of it. For example in PSHE, we did our own circle time to demonstrate to us what we could do if we were in this situation. The staff are also very friendly and easy to talk to and provide us with just enough support to allow us to have independence but not completely lost in a topic . The seminars are fun, practical and interactive. We also have lots of placements, and everyone on the course was placed in a school. The best thing about the course is that you end up being a teacher at the end of it. Also, we have AT sessions on a regular basis which talk about our progress or a piece of work we have done, I find this helps me massively.
Students' Union
What do you think of your Students' Union in terms of student representation and facilities?
Well, we just have a new students union which has a starbucks and is so modern and stylish and looks amazing outside. I love being part of the students union, I am in the rowing team, and the social have to be the best part, you just end up having such a laugh. Also, the students union provide lots of support, and they have lots of events going on that cater for lots of different people.
Accommodation
What do you think about the safety, condition, location and cost of your accommodation?
I am in St John Central and it is very modern and up to date. All bedrooms have en-suites which is amazing as it gives you your own privacy. The rooms are very spacious and modern and stylish. The communal area is perfect, it has couches for you to socialise on and lots of kitchen space. This is also a very social accommodation. I would say the biggest benefit of this accommodation, would be how close it is to the city centre, it is just off my door step, which means I can get anywhere in a flash and it is dead near the university also.
Uni Facilities
How good are your university's facilities?
Amazing, the toilets are very clean and kept to a high standard. The university itself has a lot of facilities to offer the students.
Local life
Is your university in a good location in terms of distance to accommodation and local amenities?
The city is amazing. It has everything you could possibly want: shops, bars, clubs and so much more. The thing I love most about york is how quante it is and I love the shambles. Just think, how beautiful is the minister, and I get to graduate there! There are so many lovely restaurants, such as the star in, all bar one and caesars. There is everything in this city. It also within the beautiful park has the ruins and lots of history to the city.
Societies and Sports
How would you rate the variety of societies/sports?
amazing, they have got something for everyone
Student Support
How good is the support offered by the uni? Think both academic (tutors/feedback) and personal (counselling, etc).
we have AT sessions, which allow us to discuss out progress, essays, lessons etc. and these are every couple of weeks, which are very beneficial and can in some cases allow problems to be overcome more easily. The uni also provides lots of personal support.
