Leeds Beckett is a practical, supportive, diverse and career-focused university with modern facilities and a great student culture in an affordable city. However, it could improve in teaching consistency, accommodation, student union activity, and guaranteed industry opportunities. The experience is best when students are proactive, involved, and willing to use the support available.

My course at Leeds Beckett offers a good mix of in-class learning and online resources, with lecturers who are supportive and easy to approach for help, although having more recorded lessons and regular weekly drop-in sessions would make learning even more accessible. The workload is generally manageable, but it would be useful to spread deadlines more evenly and include more practical workshops to strengthen understanding. One area that could be improved is placement support; the university could create stronger links with companies, provide a clearer list of opportunities, and offer compulsory short placements within every course. Having more personalised careers guidance, mock interviews, and support specifically for international students would help more graduates secure quality internships and jobs after completing their degree.

Leeds is a brilliant place to be a student because it has everything in one city: vibrant nightlife, affordable food spots, huge shopping centres, live music venues, parks, museums, and a strong student community due to multiple universities. It’s easy to get around with reliable buses and walkable areas, and the cost of living is cheaper than many southern UK cities, which helps students manage their budgets more comfortably. The best part is the balance — you can enjoy busy social life in the city centre, then escape to calm places like Roundhay Park or Kirkstall Abbey for a break. The only downside is that, as the city keeps growing, some areas are becoming more expensive for rent and can be crowded at peak hours. However, the energy, opportunities, and student-friendly lifestyle make Leeds a lively and rewarding place to study.
