OVERALL UNIVERSITY RATING
Tell us about your overall university experience so far.
It's been a change from sixth form, having to learn food shop and to cook, clean, do laundry and keep up with work and the additional work too. But I wouldn't change it for the world, the experiences and friendships made aren't to be taken for granted. Honestly the best decision I have made.
Job Prospects
How does your uni make efforts to increase your employability (careers department, work placements, transferable skills)?
Bangor university offers a BEA, which is a Bangor employ-ability award, allowing our achievements that aren't academic or sport related to be noticed and rewarded. They offer loads of advice for careers/CV writing, placement and volunteering opportunities and support any path you wish to take to the fullest.
Course and Lecturers
What do you like most and least about the way your course(s) are taught?
All of our lectures are recorded so if they are missed you can watch them back in your room and get additional notes from them too. We have lectures, seminars, workshops, guest speakers and lab practicals all enhancing our learning. Lecturers are engaging and dedicated to their teaching as they all research in their respected areas. On outdoor activities we spend 8 hours a week either on the lake doing water based sports or land based, climbing and hill walking.
How many contact hours per week do you have?
20
Students' Union
What do you think of your Students' Union in terms of student representation and facilities?
The student union is great, it has several 'departments' including, writing skills to help with referencing, housing support, careers advice, mental health and counselling support as well as disability and financial support for those who need it. They also offer trips, volunteering opportunities and provide hall mentors in your building for additional support when you need it.
Accommodation
What do you think about the safety, condition, location and cost of your accommodation?
Amazing, everything is accessible to all. Laundry services, bar, security, sports centre and gym as well as, bike sheds and parking facilities. There is also a little shop on campus, allowing quick shops to be completed. Within 10 minutes of most university buildings for lectures, meaning you can lay in! My actual room is fab, spacious, affordable, clean, has a bed, wardrobe, en-suite shower and toilet with basin. Large desk and some storage for all the work etc.
Uni Facilities
How good are your university's facilities?
Fabulous!! Labs are great, full of technology and able to be used from first year. Lecture halls are spacious each with several boards to view from. Library's are open 24/7 and include internet access and printing facilities. Sport centers and the gym are modern and have all the latest machines/equipment. As well as a weightlifting platform and climbing wall!
Local life
Is your university in a good location in terms of distance to accommodation and local amenities?
Pretty good! Everything is accessible, shops, clubs, LOADS OF PUBS!! There is all the standard local shops and essential (Post office etc). As well a range of supermarkets, pubs aren't in shortage, normally several on each street. Clubs and bars as well as cafes and restaurants are great, lively with loads of good music. Takeaways are great and are normally free delivery.
Societies and Sports
How would you rate the variety of societies/sports?
Great!! Join as many as possible, if there isn't one for you, then set one up! There are obviously the usually sporting ones as well as niches ones too (Octopush/Quidditch). Societies range from school/subject related ones to equality/LGBTQ+, from gardening to debating and board games!
Student Support
How good is the support offered by the uni? Think both academic (tutors/feedback) and personal (counselling, etc).
Academically, everyone is provided with a personal tutor who is always accessible by emails or via their drop-in sessions within their office. They offer both academic and personal support during your time at university. Feedback is provided both electronically on return slips of your work and in person through feedback lectures/seminars. Counselling and mental health support is great, appointments can be made, assessments taken and it's all confidential, so you don't need to worry about a thing
