The location of the campus in relation to the city centre is optimal as there is a distance from the hustle and bustle of York but it is easily walkable to get there if you wish. Some of the buildings are slightly old and outdated which is off-putting but other buildings are a lot more modern and pleasant to look at. The teaching on my course has been great and the bars on campus are cheap and a good night out.

I think there could be more contact hours with my subject as it feels like I'm hardly being taught anything. The staff in the LLS department are all lovely and very approachable. I don't require many facilities for the course and modules I'm taking so I don't have a strong opinion on that.

Derwent is one of the cheapest accommodations on campus and I feel as though it was worth the money. My block was in a great location on campus and was close to many of the main buildings I had classes in. The catering was decent although there was little variety in the meals they offered. The accommodation buildings themselves were very dated and the windows were thin and didn't actually shut properly. My room was very spacious and had a lovely sink/mirror area with plenty of space for my things. There was a silverfish problem in many of the bedrooms and kitchen in my flat and I know it was a problem in other flats in my halls also. The security was a bit sub-optimal as there was only one locked door to get into the staircase of my block and once you were past that you could access any of the three floors in the building and get into their kitchens and any bedrooms that were unlocked. We had items from our kitchen stolen multiple times throughout the year from people on other floors of the block which left us feeling unsafe.

It’s hard being a mature student but they try to help you out. It’s a lovely campus but they need to do more to make things accessible to disabled students.

Good amount of contact time. High expectations and you can feel isolated if you’re not as good as the rest of the class

Good location. All the newer accommodation is furthest away from the west campus (where my department is) so this can be a problem. Disabled students deserve accommodation that meets their needs but is close to their department.
