The facilities provided by the university are great, they have great study rooms which can be accessed at any time and spaces such as seminar rooms can be rented free of charge and used at any time. Surrounding these study spaces there are often cafes which is great if you’re in for a long day of studying, focusing on exams or on long pieces of work. The food is also pretty nice and varied which is always a plus. The library at the university is huge both online and offline meaning anything you want or need will probably be readily available. Something i also experienced was when requesting a book from the storage of the library, they instead provided me with an online link which was really useful. Plus the book request service was really easy to use and they responded quickly. The university also has great links between campus and York throughout the night which is good for anyone who wants to be involved with the nightlife. The university also appears to be taking time to modernise study spaces and the campus itself (especially east) so it is a very appeasing place to study. Something I would stay could be be improved is some of the study spaces and cafes being open on weekends. I understand this requires more staffing and would probably be hard to do but I think a lot of students would enjoy that.

The content of the course is completely fine, i found that between first and second year the content did get more interesting and one of my lecturers even mentioned how we might feel as if we knew nothing and that was no problem. It was reassuring to receive that assurance as it often felt as though everyone else knew what was going on and i didn’t. The integration of PBL in the law aspect of the study is also great, however you have to contribute as this is part of your grade. I didn’t think this was an issue but it’s important to consider. The reason i’ve rated down careers and internships is because of the way it is set out in law. Careers is held by a careers team which is great and you can email them at any time, however the law and criminology LLB is held under sociology therefore there has been a few law based opportunity we have missed and not been emailed about because of our course. This has been highlighted as well by the fact that a lot of my peers want to go into law and felt as though they were not giving the same treatment as the 3 year law students were.

Constantine college was a great hall of residence, the en-suites were great and the kitchens were spacious and had everything we needed. However we made several complaints about the microwave not working throughout the year and one of our kettles and this was never fixed. Complaints about our showers becoming clogged easily were responded to quickly, this was a recurring problem though. I heard from other students that other universities had a system where you would write what your interests were and they were roomed based on that, i think that is a nice idea. I also think that dorms of 12 is a bit extreme, our flat was basically split in half because of this with both sides having problems. This was not a rare occurrence and i heard this from other people quite a lot. The free student meal once a week was a great addition, it meant that we didn’t have to think about cooking for once which was great. My view was okay, i overlooked the basketball court which could be a bit annoying, especially when they decided to play at weird times. I know some parts of the college had better views so it just depends on that. Soundproofing between rooms was amazing, however between rooms and the corridor it was bad, a few of us were woken up several times each term by random disturbances.

Amazing city, with easy connections to get anywhere else. Large campus allows lots of facilities both educational and fun.

Sometimes law and criminology don’t communicate deadlines well and we end up with a ridiculous amount of work to do all around the same time. But timetable is always good and having the variety keeps the course interesting
