OVERALL UNIVERSITY RATING
Tell us about your overall university experience so far.
As a mature student the university have been extremely supportive of my situation, honestly think if I had chosen another place of study I wouldnt have lasted past the first semester. The Mature Students society is a great help and offers peer support and advice on juggling study with homelife.
The university itself is an awe inspiring mix of classical buildings and modern atchitecture, it's one of the vest looking uni campuses i've visited and with a program of uogrades and new building scheduled, its only going to get better over the coming decade.
The students are what makes a university and the UoG students are a credit to the university itself, the majority are dedicated, intelligent and helpful, theyre the reason why the university continues to thrive.
Job Prospects
How does your uni make efforts to increase your employability (careers department, work placements, transferable skills)?
The uni offers a wide range of employability courses and runs workshops and seminars on everything from CV writing to interview skills, the SRC host employment fayres several times throughout the year and also has ties with leading employers throughout a wide range of industries who offer internships and work based training exclusively for UoG students.
Course and Lecturers
What do you like most and least about the way your course(s) are taught?
The lecturers all seem to have a genuine passion for the subjects and a desire to pass on their knowledge and experience, the seminar tutors are approachable and the entire teaching staff make it apleasure to learn in such an environment. Of course i can only speak for the staff within my faculty, the others may be awful but i doubt it.
How many contact hours per week do you have?
6
Students' Union
What do you think of your Students' Union in terms of student representation and facilities?
I dont really get involved much, i have a young family at home so my free time is taken up with them, though i do know that both unions within the UoG host social events throughout the year and also do a lot to improve the conditions and to support the students.
Uni Facilities
How good are your university's facilities?
We have one of the best library collections in europe, state of the art Gym facilities and a coffee bar in each building as well as a museum, a gallery, a renowned concert venue and various eateries and bars all within the campus.
Local life
Is your university in a good location in terms of distance to accommodation and local amenities?
Glasgow offers something for everyone, theres quiet parks and museums, sport facilities, 2 major football teams, several theatres with peformances as diverse as the city itself, nightckubs, fine dining, burger bars, live gigs, opera,Ice Hockey, Roller discos, golf, wrestling, LARPing, award winning restaurants and pubs, gin joints and brew houses. Glasgow has a reputation as the best nightlife in the UK and has more michelin stars than the rest of scotland combined, it really is the best city in europe and deserving of all the accolades and praise it has recieved over the past 20 years, its no longer "no mean city" and is now "the dear green place"
Societies and Sports
How would you rate the variety of societies/sports?
There are over 100 uni societies and clubs that cater for everyone and if you dont find one you like then its simple to start your own. Each group has its own unique place within uni life and all offer several social engagements throughout the year.
Student Support
How good is the support offered by the uni? Think both academic (tutors/feedback) and personal (counselling, etc).
The lecturers offer feedback on all submissions and are hapoy to make time to discuss your work with you, they also are approachable and will point you in the right direction for any emotional or physical support you require. The uni support team are always there to help with any problems you have, struggling with finances? They can help, struggling with stress? They will help. Cant access your online accounts? They'll help with that as well.
