I’m based at the Glenside Campus, and the facilities for healthcare courses are excellent. The simulation rooms are especially helpful for students who learn best through hands-on, activity-based study, as they provide a realistic experience of working in a hospital environment. The campus itself is quiet and green, which creates a calm and peaceful atmosphere. There are also plenty of local amenities nearby, such as cafés and shops. However, compared to the Frenchay Campus, Glenside offers less variety in terms of on-campus shops. In addition, there are fewer societies based at Glenside, and many events and activities tend to take place at Frenchay. This can sometimes make the campus feel a little isolated.

Diagnostic Radiography offers a good balance between theory and practical learning. We have a practical session once a week, which helps us apply what we’ve learned and reinforces our understanding. The imaging equipment is extremely beneficial and really helps build confidence before starting clinical placement. The lecturers are knowledgeable about the course content and explain concepts in a clear, easy-to-understand way. They also provide a helpful range of resources to support our studies. However, some teaching sessions can feel quite fast-paced because a lot of content is covered in a short amount of time. This can be challenging to keep up with, although I’m doing my best to manage it.

The halls are located on campus, which is very convenient and makes it easy to get to classes, especially early in the morning. The rooms and shared spaces are functional, and everything needed to live comfortably is provided. There are also plenty of useful amenities nearby in Fishponds, such as cafés, supermarkets, and restaurants, so day-to-day essentials are easily accessible. However, the accommodation does feel quite basic, and some facilities—particularly the kitchens and shared bathrooms—could be more modern. The rooms can feel a bit old due to the building’s age, although they become comfortable once you make the space feel more like home. Additionally, there isn’t much variety in social spaces or opportunities to meet other people within the halls compared to the Frenchay accommodations.

UWE gives very good support to students. The lecturers are friendly, easy to talk to, and give clear advice that helps students understand their work and improve. However, the transport at Glenside Campus is not very convenient. There is only one bus that goes to the city centre and to Frenchay Campus, and the trip to the city centre takes a long time. That could be improved

Our courses at UWE are taught in class, and recordings are available for students to rewatch in their own time, which is very helpful. It is also easy to contact lecturers by email, and they usually reply quite quickly. UWE also offers great placement opportunities in different places, giving students useful experience in real work settings.

Living at The Hollies is good value for money, and it is right next to the campus where I study, which makes getting to lectures very easy. However, there are only a few en-suite rooms and studios available, and the en-suites do not include showers. There is a gym and a bus stop about a 15-minute walk away where students can take a faster bus to the city centre. If not, the bus stop outside the accommodation takes around 45 minutes to reach the city centre, and the bus only comes every 30 minutes.
