All the university of Nottingham campuses (England) are beautiful places to study, to meet people and to hang out. The support I have received as a student (and specifically a 'mature' and disabled student) has been great and I have been settling well into university. My lecturers and tutor have been really great at getting me settled in and answering any queries I've had. The university has some really good academic support which I've used and I am really improving in my coursework because of it. Campus jobs and unitemps have been instrumental in finding work to supplement my loans so I can have a well-rounded student experience. There's a great range of societies (personally I'm part of Signsoc and Psychsoc) to get involved with and I've met some really nice people there. I'm slowly finding my place and my people; I couldn't imagine studying anywhere else. On the slightly negative note, It is sometimes hard to understand feedback and it is a proper culture shock when you realise it is all on you from here on out (but this is the same as every university). I personally find the sports facilities quite expensive and actually a little intimidating. Not all societies are accessible and a lot of society events are centred strongly around going on nights out and the like so if you're not totally into that scene it can be a little difficult to stay connected.

The course is pretty much all in person with around 8 or 9 contact hours a week, leaving a lot of room for independent study. Lecturers tend to be pretty easy to contact as well as all our tutors (mine personally is incredibly quick at responding and helping clear up any issues). We have workshops and labs which have been pretty good at giving us a foundation in a lot of academic and other skills that we will need throughout our course like getting used to coding experiments and analytical software. However it should be noted that most of us were completely unaware that we would have to do computer science things like coding and while this wouldn't have affected my course choice, it would've been nice to go into the course informed that that would be an expectation of us. The first year is formative so currently we just have to pass and the majority of our modules are exam-based (In first semester I was only required to do 2 essays for coursework each weighted at 25%). There is a nice selection of psychology modules - both compulsory and optional - and the option to branch out and complete modules from other schools. Overall, there's a good ranges of topics, information, expectations, opportunities and support from my school.

Moving into halls has been an interesting ride. It has been interesting learning how to budget and to grocery shop for just one person and to learn to live with people you literally have never met before. Pros of Raleigh -really easy walk to both Jubilee and University Park campuses and really easy to catch the bus (either the normal one or the university hopper bus) - Lidl, dominos, greggs are literally 2 minute walk away -Aldi, the Range, B&M etc. are 15 minute walk away -City is 35 minute walk or literally like 10 minute bus ride -Amenities are pretty good, nice common room, ResEx teams who are lovely and management are usually alright when you can get to talk to them. -Rooms are pretty nice, pretty standard-WIFI, electricity and water are all included so you're pretty set up as far as bills go. -Events are usually pretty good here (sometimes get free food so what's not to love) Cons of Raleigh - Circuit laundry is expensive -Weekly flat inspections (which aren't necessarily a bad thing but you should be aware of as you can get fined) - Can sometimes get pretty loud - Parcels cannot be delivered to the office so you basically have to sit in for them and sometimes they get put in the common room and you will be scolded by security to go get them - Hard to get food delivered - A lot of people for a pretty small common room. -If someone in your flat does something wrong (i.e smoking indoors etc.) you will all get an email which will threaten consequences (again not necessarily a problem, you just should be aware) -It's hard living with other people you don't know (tips - create a cleaning rota and stick to it, don't use other peoples stuff and clean up after yourself) - If you don't hand in your maintenance form when you move in, you can be charged for every defect in your room regardless of whether it was there before you moved in.
