OVERALL UNIVERSITY RATING
Tell us about your overall university experience so far.
It has been quite difficult fitting in but I am quite enjoying it, you just need to make sure to join societies and take every opportunity to meet new people.
How does your uni make efforts to increase your employability (careers department, work placements, transferable skills)?
We have lots of workshops and extra talks about career opportunities within psychology. There is also career central who are super helpful in terms of job prospects.
Course and Lecturers
What do you like most and least about the way your course(s) are taught?
There is a mix of lectures and practicals which I really enjoy as it is more so active learning. I have also found that when emailing seminar leaders/lecturers they are super helpful if you don’t understand the work. The only downfall is that I find some lecturers are over complicating the work and we then don’t understand.
How many contact hours per week do you have?
What do you think of your Students' Union in terms of student representation and facilities?
There are lots of facilities as of what I have seen so far and there is a sense of community.
What do you think about the safety, condition, location and cost of your accommodation?
The safety of the accommodation is really good and you feel very secure. The accommodation is on campus so the location is perfect as it is close to everything you need. The cost is very good for what you get included in the price. However, I believe many students would be willing to pay a higher price if there was a communal area for the block, the option for a double bed or even just sofas in the kitchen.
How good are your university's facilities?
I have not used the sportspark as of yet but from what I have heard it is very good. In terms of everything else on campus there is quite a range of facilities which are all easy to get to and fairly convenient.
Is your university in a good location in terms of distance to accommodation and local amenities?
It is in a convenient location, however, the closest big food store is about a 20 minute walk away which isn’t too bad but can be difficult when doing a large shop as you will need to carry it back. This means you have to do online shopping more regularly or shop at the tesco express which is only a 10 minute walk away. The buses are very convenient and take you right into town or even to the train station for a reasonable price.
Societies and Sports
How would you rate the variety of societies/sports?
There’s lots of choice and is something for everyone. The variety is impeccable and all of the societies seem to be well organised and very welcoming.
How good is the support offered by the uni? Think both academic (tutors/feedback) and personal (counselling, etc).
Academic support is good but I haven’t quite used it much as of yet. However, I had issues in my original accommodation and had to move. The student support was absolutely impeccable and made me feel so much happier once speaking to them. They do an excellent job.
