Tell us about your overall university experience so far.
I have loved my uni experience, mainly due to the friends I have made - partly at college and also through sport. I would also recommend thouroughly researching your course before applying as I found I didn't like my original course and this was detrimental to being able to thrive and enjoy my time. That said, it is possible, although sometimes difficult, to change course once you're there.
Facilities
How good are your university's facilities?
Very good
Student support
How good is the support offered by the uni? Think both academic (tutors/feedback) and personal (counselling, etc).
I don't think it's particularly good, especially in terms of personal support. I have previously experienced dismissive, backwards approaches to dealing with personal issues.
Students' union
What do you think of your Students' Union in terms of student representation and facilities?
We don't have an active union building and the student union is very unimportant to my university experience.
Local life
Is your university in a good location in terms of distance to accommodation and local amenities?
Yes, it's relatively well placed although that depends which faculty you study at. Cambridge is a relatively small centre so it's very easy to get to any amenities
Societies and Sports
How would you rate the variety of societies/sports?
Very good range and selection. Also relatively good financial support available for sport and society participation
Lecturers and teaching quality
What do you like most and least about the way your course(s) are taught?
I think the small group teaching we receive is really important and beneficial
I dislike lectures as there is often little deviation from the slides in terms of what the lecturer can offer
How many contact hours per week do you have?
12
Career prospects
How does your uni make efforts to increase your employability (careers department, work placements, transferable skills)?
There is a lot of support available if you choose to use it
University halls
What do you think about the safety, condition, location and cost of your accommodation?
I feel very safe in college due to the presence of 24 hour security in the form of porters. In general, the college is in a relatively good condition, although you can be unlucky and live in one of the older buildings. Location in town is good and is also close to faculties. Cost is very high, but you do get a relatively good room for that if you are lucky.
