As a local, and mature student, I have been made to feel very welcome into an environment which could have been an extra anxiety factor. I have become involved in employment, volunteership, societies, and skills training I know I would never have been made aware of up till now. The knowing that the academic side of my degree is only part of the whole picture is a revelation. The real life experience opportunities are invaluable as far as I'm concerned and my Uni gives you every chance and support with whatever you wish to try. Each opportunity taken raises your networking profile even higher, so improving your job and career prospects way before you need to look for a job. Being at the mature end of a worklife, I appreciate the exposure inclusive learning is giving me at Buxton.

Being located in a historic listed building is an amazing thing. I'm 95ased at the outdoors activities centre away from campus, though and which has very limited structure for student comfort, and I'd like to see that being addressed.

I have had only one cause to use the SU, so I can't comment, apart from the fact I know they are very proactive.

Buxton is a self contained town, and small enough to offer a sense of safety and proportion to students who come from abroad or smaller communities. The cities are all reachable within an hour anyway.

Having not been in education for several decades, I have found every single assignment a mammoth task. I've had to research what the assignment meant before I could apply the research to it, which has meant I've done double the work. I have been challenged in every way and have learnt a huge amount, and achieved high grades which encourages me to carry on. It was very disappointing to be told my main course lecturer was leaving his post soon after our first year. It was very unsettling and I felt the entire course was at risk. However, the Uni has managed to address this and enable us to continue to the end.

The careers service is a valuable tool at Buxton. Its position, within the library area is excellent. I have used to the service to learn how to write a contemporary CV. Being of an older age group, writing and presenting a CV is a very different skill set nowadays. The lady who helped me, Tracey, was very knowledgeable and supportive.
