Facilities are always clean at the university and they are very accessible. The location of the university is perfect as it is located near lots of different areas such as Botanic, Lisburn road area and Stranmillis which have lots of lovely food places and shops. Being at Queen’s is so fun because of the atmosphere. The new students union is a go to to meet up with friends or as a more chilled out place to study compared to the library.

My course is mainly taught in person. However some modules I have had been online which in my opinion can sometimes be a struggle to learn content. The content I am taught is very interesting and it really does enhance the uni experience. My learning was affected by the university strikes however I was still provided with resources and materials to aid my learning. I have always been able to contact either lecturers or tutors whether it’s via email (which we are provided with in the first week) or via discussions on canvas. I think canvas is an amazing platform and it’s so efficient and easy to use.

Queen's has high standards and this is reflected in all of the above elements. I am still finding my feet but have overall settled. I would love to see more events for older students such as over the age of 30. I feel a bit isolated but I there are many clubs and societies to join. I am so far a member of Women in STEM, the Chemistry Society and the Biological Science Society. I would also like to see more awareness and events for neurodiverse students, particularly older ones.

I am interested in biodiversity as I aspire to become a full time professional wildlife ecologist. I am looking forward to studying modules more focused on wildlife and habitats. My favourite topic so far is Earth Science. Our classes are across three schools and it is good to have variety and change of scene. While I am overall settled, the downside to that is that we are I currently do not feel like I fully belong anywhere. Also, I would have preferred to study biodiversity first and more thoroughly before studying environmental policies. However, this is just how my mind works given my previous work experience and I understand why we are studying this at this stage.

There are lots of nice places to eat and drink and always events on. As a lone female with a learning difference, I do not stay too late at uni as around the area where Botanic train station is can be rowdy and intimidating for me. However, if I were a younger student who could afford to live in Belfast, I would likely enjoy the nightlife and vibrancy of the city, and have more freedom to use the McKlay Library as it's open 24/7.
