The university provides a diverse environment and supportive module convenors in the politics department. However, it's also important to recognise the challenges that the university is facing, particularly with regards to centralising everything and the new department hub. The centralisation has resulted in difficulties in dealing with student questions, and that the hub was not adequately prepared for the capacity of students' needs. There may have been an underestimation of the workload involved in centralising and letting go of staff. It's also concerning that there is a backlog of work from last year, which needs to be addressed. In terms of how things could be improved, it might be helpful for the university to conduct a review of the centralisation process and identify areas where improvements can be made. This could involve gathering feedback from students and staff to ensure that their needs are being met. Additionally, the university could consider increasing staffing levels in the department hub to ensure that students' questions are answered promptly and efficiently. It's important for universities to continually assess and improve their processes to ensure that they are providing the best possible experience for their students.

There are sometimes clashes between seminars and lectures, and that there can be long gaps between classes. This can be challenging for students who may have other commitments or who may find it difficult to stay engaged over such long periods of time. It may be worth for the department to discuss with course coordinator or student representatives to see if there is a way to better manage the scheduling of classes for students. Regarding in-person exams, there are concerns with the changes to our daily lives since lockdown. It's important the university could consider offering alternative exam formats for students who are not able to take in-person exams. Students are more comfortable to work from there home.

I have returned to Goldsmiths as a PhD student based on my experience of the teaching there. The majority of lecturers are student focused and apply an interdisciplinary approach to teaching. A criticism I would make is that while the university boasts a majority of mature students, as a mature student myself I find support for the circumstances of mature students is lacking. Most social events and societies are geared towards the younger students. Also, while the university has gone some way to mitigate the effects of the strikes this fails to accommodate the circumstances of mature students. For example, arranging teachouts or seminars at alternative times and locations can be difficult for those students with caring commitments to attend. While this is not unique to Goldsmiths, the university has conducted a series of strikes separate to national strikes thus the impact on mature students could be said to be more pronounced.
