OVERALL UNIVERSITY RATING
Tell us about your overall university experience so far.
University-wise, it has only been pleasant so far, and surprisingly so. I am enjoying my studies very much, I do not find it hard to study any subjects because they interest me and they are made interesting. Accompanied by great people with expertise in their fields and enriched with workshops where creativity and team competitions are involved, I am having the time of my life.
Job Prospects
How does your uni make efforts to increase your employability (careers department, work placements, transferable skills)?
There's a whole Careers department focusing on CV advice, cover letters, how to present oneself, how to manage interviews, what skills are important, etc. The uni provides many opportunities for work placements during holidays or as a part of industrial placement year. Lecturers are engaging and will help any way they can with getting experience to students. Any skill that is not taught can be additionaly gained either through speaking with relevant people, gaining the skills in societies or using other helpful resources.
Course and Lecturers
What do you like most and least about the way your course(s) are taught?
I don't like that the lectures are impersonal, but that is a consequence of a big uni. There aren't many cons I can think of. There are lecturers that don't explain the topics as clearly as others, but 1 on 1 help is available and when utilized, works every time. What I like the most is how practical the skills we learn are and how we immediately use what we learn in labs or projects.
How many contact hours per week do you have?
16
Students' Union
What do you think of your Students' Union in terms of student representation and facilities?
I like how many opportunities SUSU offers, I can't think of anything I'd love to do that isn't available to me. There are so many events going on that I can barely keep up with a quarter of them. The only thing I can complain about is providing feedback to the relevant people. They are trying their best to resolve as many complaints as possible, but don't have a good system implemented.
Accommodation
What do you think about the safety, condition, location and cost of your accommodation?
Well-maintained, services available at any time of day. Printer and PC access all throughout halls. Within walking distance to the university, parks and shops with bus links leading to the rest of the city
Uni Facilities
How good are your university's facilities?
Considering we have 5 wind tunnels, 6 workshop studios and several more project workshops over all of our campuses, all the computing power a student could ever need, a big library and many study rooms that are only used to their full capacity during exams, I can only be satisfied.
Local life
Is your university in a good location in terms of distance to accommodation and local amenities?
The most explored parts of the city for us students are the clubs and pubs, of which there are enough to keep you doing new pub crawls every week for a year. The city also offers several shopping districts, but those are spread out over bigger areas, so nothing is too packed. All in all I don't miss anything
Societies and Sports
How would you rate the variety of societies/sports?
The society leaders actively seek feedback from the members and I've not encountered a club that would be unpleasant to be in. They are welcoming to all members, whatever their skills are. I have had an easy time getting to know a society and felt at home very quickly.
Student Support
How good is the support offered by the uni? Think both academic (tutors/feedback) and personal (counselling, etc).
Tutors are looking for feedback after every big activity and after every semester / finished module. They are eager to listen and appropriately adjust their teaching methods to improve the lecture quality. Personal counselling is available and I have not had a hard time booking several meetings over the course of my studies.
