Great student support, very helpful and approachable academics (Department of Physics and Astronomy), plenty of facilities available to study and socialise.

I've really enjoyed the Theoretical Physics degree at the University of Sheffield. Lecturers are very helpful and approachable, the course content is varied, challenging and really interesting, and there are plenty of high quality teaching facilities (e.g. the Quantum Information laboratory).

The location, although gets quite cold in winter, is fantastic in summer with the peaks just on our doorstep for a relaxing excursion. I love the feel of the area where I live it feels like a small-town community in residence, but the city centre is no more than a 30-minute walk away. Unfortunately, some aspects are not fantastic including the homelessness crisis and people feeling unsafe late at night, though this is the case for most if not all places.

There are plenty of contact hours including lectures/tutorials etc. and all are beneficial. But if you miss one for some reason then there is plenty of content uploaded to Blackboard. Sometimes the workload can be a bit tough with short deadlines or disorganisation can make it difficult to stay on top of things.

I attribute going into Uni halls as one of the best things I did in my life, I met some great people and they kept me sane throughout Covid year, and I lived with them for 2 more years after that. The facilities were ok with an ensuite wetroom, and the kitchen was ok too. The main downside was no fault of the accommodation but the timing with being locked down for over half of the year.
