What makes LAU a great place to study is being surrounded by other passionate creatives and being able to use the facilities to collaborate and inspire one another.

I like that there is opportunities for both online and in class learning, it keeps it flexible to some extent. Tutors are usually decent at replying to emails.

There isn't always a lot going on at the students union, it is a small university but I thought there would be ongoing events and broader range of opportunities, having said that the union is a lovely and welcoming place. Facilities are brilliant but opportunity to use them can be limited, there doesn't seem to be enough availability to support the number of students at the university even though the numbers are fairly small. Student support is fairly good, but I think there is room for improvement, it seems to be somewhat limited by the experience the staff don't always have in dealing with levels that go further than fairly surface level and more easily resolved issue. Although I will say they do their best to help and assist in anyway they can, this just may need be enough for everyone. Student life for me is based on the location of this university as it does not have a campus, I do see this as a shame as a campus can really add to that feeling of studying at University level and the experiences that come along with that. This isn't something that can necessary be changed but I would say if there is potential for this development in the future it would be significantly add to the University and draw more potential students in. The location of the university is very close to the city centre, which is brilliant for running in when you need to, as well as the opportunities and things Leeds has to offer. I will say that as the university does not have a campus, the designated student halls/ accommodations may seem close but they are a further distance from the university than you would normally find, saying that they are usually in walking distance.

I feel that the course content is fairly limited, it seems to be more surface level, which isn't always a bad thing as university is more about independent study and the support for this here is brilliant. I don't think the is really something the tutors can add to either as it is much more of a practical course. Additionally, all of the lecturers are extremely knowledgeable with very useful and relevant experience Tutor contact time has been impacted by Covid for my personal experience, I will say that on the whole tutors and lectures respond quickly to emails, and are happy to stay behind after sessions if needed. However, I feel that there aren't enough lectures/ designated (mostly half) days in university, even though apparently the number we have is normal, personally I feel more is needed whether this is just at Leeds Arts or universities as a whole. Also, it is possible these have now been increased this amount for the lower years due to this feedback being given, so it is worth checking directly for specific information on this. Subject facilities are fantastic as it is a Specialist Arts University, the workshops provided for these are brilliant too, and the staff are very approachable and always on hand to be of assistance. This course doesn't offer work placements or internships, but the lecturers to send both general and specific opportunities your way, I feel that this is something the university as a whole could look at developing for their individual courses. However, there is a careers portal which is great but I don't think it is used as much as it could or should be, due to it possibly not being that integrated into the course material.
