Looking back, and through my experiences with visiting friends at 'prestigious' or supposedly better unis, MMU proved to me to be everything I could have asked for in a uni, and this is greatly underecognised by snobby league tables and those who only have time for the Russell Group club. However, please bare in mind that I am only speaking from my experience in the area of humanities, and more specifically, the English and Philosophy departments in the city of Manchester (I can't speak for Crewe, Cheshire!). Nevertheless, in all honesty, MMU has unrivalled resources in the form of an extensive, thoroughly organised, efficient and spacious main library (far better than the University of Manchester -no joke!), computers in abundance (never short of far from one) and internet moodle systems and email/correspondence with tutors is very efficient. The careers department is extremely organised and caring and have everything you could want. the campuses are fairly near one another, tidy and easy to navigate. The people in Manchester are some of the most friendly in the world and MMU students are equally friendly, but also a lot of fun. The range of courses and subjects on offer is incomparable with anywhere. It is probably one of the largest in the UK, with the greatest range. This is what causes the downfall in the league tables I feel, as not every department can be perfect. Nevertheless, the international status of the university has grown dramatically since I started in 2010, and it hosts a wide mix of students from home and abroad, also offering many opportunities to spend part of your studies abroad.
