Great support for students outside of academics. Could be improved by food and social spaces at new healthcare campus.

Engaging lecturers. Could be improved by greater variety of placements.

Cardiff uni is so inclusive - there's so many different societies on offer and opportunities to get more involved with the individual schools. I always feel very welcome and greeted kindly when joining a new society. The lecturers are smart and professional, but know when a laugh is needed and how to make it happen. They are super friendly and approachable, I never worry about speaking to them in person or emailing them my concerns. I think the university buildings themselves are beautiful and kept so clean - just incredibly well-looked after, especially the centre for student life. it looks so majestic, it makes me want to study! I do think the Heath campus isn't as aesthetically pleasing to the eye, which is a shame because I'm there everyday and have never been in the city centre for lectures. I understand it's a literal hospital in which we go to lectures (and the lecture theatres are all actually lovely) but I do get jealous that my buildings don't feel so regal and important like the others get to experience.

I really enjoy the course, it's right up my street and I find it mega interesting. I'm currently on placement and find the constant travelling very tiring but I do understand that we're expected to travel and the uni will make it as easy for us as possible (e.g. travel reimbursements, accommodation if required). The lecturers provide engaging content and even when it's a bit dull they acknowledge this and use humour to get us through! I have only met my tutor once, at the beginning of first semester but I've emailed her many times and always get a prompt response, she's very helpful and I appreciate her advice and reassurance. I am so excited to graduate, there are many different areas in which I can go and work and my lecturers/mentors while on placement have provided lots of useful insight and tips for the industry. The only negative thing I have to say about the uni is the health library, I am still a bit confused about how to get the best use out of it and I don't understand why there are so few books there. I don't know why I'm expected to travel just under an hour to another library to pick up a book if it isn't in the health library and/or the online version isn't available - it's a waste of time. there are lots of different seating arrangements though and I appreciate the designated silent study and quiet study spaces.

The cost of living in Cardiff can be tricky but I think that's the same wherever you go in the UK nowadays. There are cheap alternatives for students and the occasional student discounts/perks which come in handy. I think the public transport is great for the amount of people they're catering to but sometimes buses don't show up or they actually leave too early and that gets frustrating. I don't know much about graduate employment opportunities but I know there are plenty available and lots of people to ask for advice within the university. I always feel safe in Cardiff, I feel very privileged as I know this isn't always the case and to have got this far into the year without feeling unsafe is kind of surprising. I have a part-time job which was relatively easy to obtain through the university, it fits around my studies and it's a helpful bit of income each week. Cardiff is the most diverse place I have ever lived and I am thoroughly enjoying being introduced to new cultures and cuisines.

Clodien House is a private accommodation but it's closely affiliated with the university, it's run by Unite Students. I find the location to be very convenient - it's an 8 minute walk from the hospital and a 5 minute walk from the general Heath campus which is where I am always based. I got the room I asked for which was particularly brilliant considering I applied through clearing and expected to get the last of the litter. I feel very safe in Clodien, it's a gated community and you have to use a key card to get both in and out of the gates. They keep the road gates closed and don't allow drivers in unless they're a resident or will only be in for 30 minutes. I've never had a problem with the wifi since I moved in, and the property is well cared for. There always seem to be a third party contractor onsite but they never bother or interfere with the residents which everyone appreciates. There are frequent bus routes into the city centre but I always have to walk about 10 minutes to the nearest bus stop which can be annoying. It's a 30-40 min walk to the Centre for Student Life or the train station which can also suck. I don't think Clodien is worth the amount I'm paying; I'm in a studio and paying £209 weekly, but considering the amount of time I've gone without a working lift, working washing machines or hot water (and had no reimbursements) I wouldn't exactly recommend it.
