The support at UoG is first class. I have been supported through an interruption of studies plus through the global pandemic. A location with city living and country living you have the best if both worlds. There are plenty of extra curricular activities with societies covering a wide and diverse range of interests and activities. Facilities and services are always being improved and developed to accommodate a forever changing world, environment and student base. The university is there for the student as a whole, financially, emotionally and personally as well as academically.

A range of methods are used in the delivery of this course including, face to face and online. Lecturers, course leaders and tutors are always there for you and will go above and beyond to ensure your needs are met.

As a mature student I don’t make much use of student life, so I am not sure of what is available. The student support team are fantastic, they have been amazing through giving academic support through to emotional well-being. There is always a friendly face near by! Again I haven’t really used the students union, living and travelling from Wales every day I am in, its nice to get home and put my feet up. Wow I really am getting old, lol. The facilities are good, you can always get a nice hot cooked meal each day and there is a good variety, something different every day. I am now starting to get the hang of finding my way around the campus, but the layout, look and feel is comfortable. There is a section for each subject, meaning health is one side, business is in a separate building etc.

The course has a lot of subject matter to offer. There is plenty of information given and available. We also are given access to free sites where we can achieve further research on the topics we’ve been given. Lecturers and teaching quality, unfortunately this hasn’t always been a positive experience. Sometimes you ring a lecturer and leave a message and never hear back. Some of the lectures feel rushed and too much information is crammed into one session. I have given the tutor contact time a 3 for the same reason, I think for spending £27,000 on the course this could be improved. My first work placement was a disaster, it was the wrong environment to place a first year. I felt like I had taken 2 steps forward and 10 steps back. There was very little support and I felt I didn’t really learn much, this badly affected my confidence. My second placement however was a much more positive one with some really lovely carers and nurses who were very supportive. There are many opportunities to get involved with careers fairs and open days, visits etc. The subject facilities are great, I love the Glevum ward and the way the dolls interact, making it feel like a real patient. The equipment used is similar to that of on the wards which gives us a feel of what it will be like when we qualify.

The location of the uni is good, it is easy to find and there are buses that run locally. However as I come from Wales I drive back and forth each day. Parking is horrendous if you arrive after 10! There are never any spaces then!
