The location and facilities are perfect for music yet the student Union and societies rarely put on anything which interests me - despite me wanting to join in.

The lecturers are all easy to contact and willing to help however I wish there were more opportunities for work placements etc. as there is one module which offers this but it was full so I couldn’t join

Initially when I moved to London from India. It was a huge and drastic change for me. As a child, I was always by myself since my parents were always working, and I managed to do everything by myself so it wasn’t too difficult moving away and living alone. But even then, London being a huge city with such a huge and diverse population, I felt lonely at times. But the facilities at Goldsmiths really helped with my loneliness a lot. My professors are also really understanding and always helped me when I struggling with my work. Going to the SU Bar (Student Union) was always a stress reliever for me. I would meet up with my friends and have a good time. Another thing that I want to mention is that, the facilities near the university is great. There are multiple student friendly supermarkets and great restaurants which are affordable. I also feel like the accommodation services could be improved a lot. I stay at Loring Hall, which is a university accommodation. The rooms and bathrooms could be improved a lot more. The bathrooms could be cleaner and a cubicle could be installed so that the water doesn’t seep out while showering. Larger en-suite rooms with double beds can be provided as an option in all the university accommodations. The location of the University is kind of a huge let down. London is such a beautiful city with so many things to do but since the university is located on the other end of London, it’s pretty difficult to commute to central london where the main attractions are located. Whenever I go to places like Oxford Circus and Mayfair, and return back to my accommodation, it feels like i’m in a different city. These are a few things that I thought would be worth mentioning. I’ve been a musician from a very young age. Both my parents are actors and I’ve established a music career in South India, having sung in more than 5 Indian languages in movies. Studying music was a huge dream of mine, hence studying this course was like a dream come true for me. I love all the subjects I study and all the facilities provided by the university make it a lot easier to study and practice. I personally don’t enjoy one subject that I have, it’s called ‘Collaborative Research’. This subject is mainly about research and how to do proper research on topics. I feel like this subject isn’t related to music at all. I feel like it’s pretty useless to the students’ overall understanding. I also feel like the subject music being a very practical subject, the practical aspects could also be implemented a lot better. My course mainly consists of theory and I would love to have some practical sessions too. The lecturers are truly a dream, they’re very helpful with the students and make the subjects we’re studying a lot easier. Another thing that is worth mentioning is the fact that, there are students from all over the world joining this course and they’re studying methods and techniques may be completely different. For example, I studied in India and I followed a syllabus called CBSE. The studying pattern and strategies were so different than the ones I’m following right now. The term 1 assessments are pretty difficult for students who have just joined the university. Being used to a different kind of learning process, it’s hard to immediately shift to such a difficult and complex process. I’d suggest that the term 1 assessment be a lot more easier and simple.

I personally don’t like my university hall much. Compared to other accommodations of other universities, I don’t like mine a lot. The facilities could be made so much better. There is no common room in my hall, which is a huge let down. A common room is an area where students can meet new people and make friends. And it’s a huge setback that there is no common room in Loring hall. The room and bathroom interiors could be improved so much. As I mentioned in the previous descriptions, a cubicle could be installed in the bathroom, that prevents the water from seeping out. I would also suggest that halls provided bigger en-suite rooms with double beds. I also wish that the laundry room was a bit closer since I have to walk a lot to get there, in the cold. The walking difference between my hall and the university is a huge advantage because the university is very close to the halls and that’s a great thing. Other university accommodations that i’ve visited, have planned events in the halls that bring all the students together. This could be done in Goldsmiths Accommodation Halls too.
