University rating
Tell us about your overall university experience so far.
This uni is perfect because it is so small! Winchester is 20min from Southampton. Not many people know where this university is because it is so small. The fact that there are less numbers is could because there are not many people at your lectures. This way you can get one to one with your tutor/professor. The accommodations around university are close to campus, you can walk to your lectures easily. There is a cute town which is the heart of Winchester. The one thing is that everyone under estimates are the HILLS. If you enjoy walking up or down then this is the university for you! :D
Facilities
How good are your university's facilities?
Uni has so many facilities, they have a cafe right in campus open 24/7 with computers, have a pizza and milkshake bar open till 2am which is always handy especially being a student! theres the learning cafe which is similar and 24/7 access to the library. Its good if you think your rooms a bit distracting when you have your cosy bed and netflix.. always good to get out to actually do work!
Student support
How good is the support offered by the uni? Think both academic (tutors/feedback) and personal (counselling, etc).
Student support is always there for you, you have checkups during your time here who are students. Everyone is very friendly you can find them around campus on the first few weeks to help you get around! you can find them on Facebook and just ask them anything you want on there. There is also the Chapel in the uni that have people in there everyday all day to go to if you do miss home or if you simply want to have a chin wag.
Students' union
What do you think of your Students' Union in terms of student representation and facilities?
I personally don't go to the SU club for religious reasons, but from what i have heard it is amazing! they have there main nights on Wednesday and Friday which is BOP and FLIRT, Bop is just full of cheesy music which everyone can enjoy! Other nights include sundays where they show 2 movies for free and you can purchase popcorn, have karaoke, and quiz nights. You never miss home when you in Winchester
Local life
Is your university in a good location in terms of distance to accommodation and local amenities?
Unfortunately Winchester is just a small town, so there are a few shops e.g. sainsburys, debenams, new look, argos, and more. There are lots of itialian restaurants around. Southampton is only 20min train away so its good to get out!
Societies and Sports
How would you rate the variety of societies/sports?
There are many societies at uni, sports, music and more. Im in Steel Pans and International Society. Even though I'm not international they welcomed me in very heart warming-ly. The more societies you join the more people you meet in the same boat as you, everyone wants to make more friends best ay is through society. There are many pubs in town, Club called Vodka and theres the SU too.
Lecturers and teaching quality
What do you like most and least about the way your course(s) are taught?
Lectures are spread through out the week, giving you days off to go home and days to go shopping, and days just to relax!
Lectures are also very good, my courses start at 10am earliest and end at 5:30 with breaks between. Lecturers are all friendly and just understand you really well! My course caters for your strengths and weaknesses. You do have to work outside of classes which is what many people forget about when they plan to go to uni!
Career prospects
How does your uni make efforts to increase your employability (careers department, work placements, transferable skills)?
My course which Im doing is Digital Media Design. I feel i have a strong job opportunity after university because they rep are you to the fullest, with portfolio training, and more. You can take optional exams which are always handy to have in your certificate collection!
University halls
What do you think about the safety, condition, location and cost of your accommodation?
I live in Burma Student Village which is a new building that has been built. I'm the third person to be in the room (so it is roughly new if you get what i mean) they keys are your student cards so you don't have to look after keys! (thank god :P ) You are mixed in with students who are doing different courses so you get to know more people. Another student accomodation is Queens and West downs, West downs simply looks beautiful at night. Its in a cute little area and you seem like a big family! Queens is one of the bigger ones with mixed shared and single rooms, its similar to Burma regarding size and distance to campus. I would personally love to live at all 3 if i could. I can simply go to any of my freons house and walk back 4am safely and quickly! There are always hues parties going on somewhere in one flat which can be fun ;)
