The university, for me will always be what I consider as home. I have felt safe and comfortable here from day 1. My current course has involved pleanty of different ways of studying, the library is very well facilitated and the staff have generally been supportive and helpful. Most of the accomodation is nice, particularly the colleges on east campus. West campus however is outdated. The uni has a diverse student body and lots of sports and clubs to join. The university could better support postgraduate students through offering more bursaries and such as these are typically aimed at undergrads and there is already a lot of funding from different area available to them. The uni could also better support students who are carers.

My course is good and has experts teaching different parts of modules. There is a variety of option modules and the course is demanding and rewarding. The course is examined in a variety of ways such as exams and coursework. I’m only in class around 7 hours a week which leaves time for other study but for some modules feels like we are doing a lot in a short amount of time. There are some opportunities to work with researchers and gain valuable experience however I wish this was better advertised as it can involve emailing a lot of people in order to get something. Also more hands on experience in data collection would also be preferred earlier on in the course.

Alcuin is located on east campus, which is close to many things. It’s nice living with other students. Cleaners come once a week to clean the kitchen and once every alternate month to clean the en-suite. Alcuin is very dated and expensive for what you get. Other colleges have more facilities in their kitchen and college common rooms and I would reccomend those over Alcuin. The sound travels through the block very easily and the bedrooms next to the kitchen are horrible as the noise echos into your room. The grounds are well maintained and look pretty. The college reception frequently closes early due to lack of staff so if you get locked out or need to collect mail you cannot. One of the cafes on college has closed down and it just feels a bit dead. Maintaince typically respond to calls within a few days and fix the problems the best they can. The rooms are cold, as the heating comes on 6-12 morning and night, meaning it can be very uncomfortable in snow and the winter.

I think there is not enough study spaces for students, especially when they keep building new accomodation. However, I love my department, all of the lecturers are passionate about what they teach

Lecturers always reply within a week of an email and they are usually quite helpful and take feedback on

The cleaners are very lovely and come over every week which is nice
