This university couldn't do enough to help me throughout the course. My personal tutor was responsive and knowledgeable Gave good careers advice and assistance for interviews and applications, enabling me to secure a graduate job prior to finishing the course.

I went straight from Uni into a graduate job

Great facilities, very comfortable chairs and plugs available. The new Morrisons Daily means I can grab essentials for home before I leave, such as washing powder or milk. The shop opening times have just been made longer. Plenty of toilets and places to study. The only issue with the infastructure is that I feel the students have been oversubscribed and so finding somewhere to eat lunch can be tricky at times. However, the extensive use of carpets is a nice touch in the buildings and gives a sense of warmth and of course, is non-slip! I would have liked a better induction as an MSC student. The timetabling and academic support was fragmented but now I feel we have settled on to the course and better understand academic expectations, and we know where to go to access support. The parking has also been an issue for myself and fellow students as allocation of spaces is extremely delayed and expensive. I understand they cannot always help this, so my advice would be to set these expectations at the start (in the form of effective communication) to avoid unnecessary agitation and disappointment. I love how this university is very inclusive and its values are people-focused, encouraging all students and staff to emanate these in study and leisure. It is evident that the staff here are extremely hard-working and passionate about making a difference not only in their students, but in the world of midwifery: through empowerment and emphasis. They gently guide us to work within a self-directed study model (in the case of midwifery anyway) and I can see the value of this course, especially as various learning styles are accommodated for in the breadth and depth of the requirements for progressive learning. I am proud to be a student here and look forward to continuing my journey over the next 3 years to my chosen profession.

As mentioned the course content is progressive with self research-based study, led by the lecturers. I find the teaching to be of a very high standard with plenty of interactive, problem-based group work. I would like some of this to be validated/commended by the leaders, to give us encouragement when things get hard. There are times when discussing for the sake of discussion is adding to a mountain of knowledge, and we sometimes feel that weight on our shoulders. Perhaps we can do this more for each other as students. As there are so many of us it is easy to sometimes just feel like an anonymous student, rather than an individual. The lecturers are very hardworking and knowledgeable on their subject, and their insight is invaluable. They are all approachable. I would like to see more midwifery- related facilities, although we do know there is a new interactive-based virtual reality learning environment being developed and currently in the planning phase, which we are very excited about. We hope this will allow us to practice high-stake skills in a low-stake environment. Placement so far has given mixed results. On 'good' days we learn new skills, observe and practice with full supervision, despite emergencies. Staff are kind and considerate, and the service user is looked after well. On 'bad' days there can be staffing problems which can escalate a myriad of problems due to lack of supervision or learning. Usually these cannot be helped, so we understand as students the issue of under-staffing will get worse before it gets better. This is one of the reasons we are going into the profession to help plug the gaps, although, at times it is hard and makes us feel we cannot continue the course. Overall we feel really privileged to be on this course and enjoying the theory, skills and building relationships with service users and their families, to provide the best outcome no matter the circumstance.
