Best - the university campus is very pretty, there are lots of societies to get involved in. Worse - not enough study space especially individual study spaces.

The University of Leeds has a great and busy student union with a plethora of societies to pick from. Campus is a clean inviting place to study with plenty of amenities such as coffee shops, lunch places, the Co-op and rest rooms. There are plenty of computers and library spaces to ensure availability even at peak times. The library service runs a very comprehensive timetable and there are also 24 hour clusters to ensue there is always somewhere to work. Frequent wellbeing emails give practical and relevant advice as well as information on opportunities to students who may be struggling with student life. For example articles on coping with depression/anxiety and student job advertisements for those who want to earn cash. Gym facilities are modern and clean with ease of access as everything is on campus. Access to the campus itself is also easy with good bus connection and from the student renting areas of Headingly and Hyde park. Furthermore the central location of the campus within the city of Leeds means travel to and from further afield is also easy. My experience has overall been positive however there has been one important difficulty. This is money. My course, medicine, requires a lot of time on placement in addition to studying for exams. This leaves little time to earn money around it. For someone who receives no financial support from their parents as well as having a low student loan allowance due to comparatively high parental income it has been difficult to make end meets at times. Although there is support available it feels very difficult to access and has involved spending lots of time on the phone and filling in paperwork to access that support. I have even missed financial support deadlines because I was not aware of the specific financial support available to me. I think the university as well as the funding agencies could put in place more financial support advertising and advice to help students that might be struggling to not only be aware of the support available to them but also how to access that support.

My course, medicine, is very varied in the quality of its deliverance and the timetable. Aspects have been absolutely fantastic with great relevant teaching and support whilst at other times I have felt exceedingly pressured by a timetable filled with low yield activities that are compulsory to attend. I feel that to make all the teaching fantastic there needs to be more standardisation of from the medical school to the staff in charge of individual rotations.

The location of my hall was on campus and close to the site where I received catering as well as my lectures, gym facilities, the union and amenities like shops. Furthermore, communal areas were kept clean and the rent was affordable on a modest student loan.
