My university experience has been both rewarding and challenging in different ways. One of the best aspects of my time at university has been the academic growth and practical learning opportunities. Studying Mechanical Engineering, especially progressing into my BEng top-up programme, has allowed me to deepen my technical knowledge and apply theory to real-world engineering problems. The lecturers are supportive and knowledgeable, and the facilities such as labs and software access have helped me develop industry-relevant skills. I have also enjoyed meeting people from different backgrounds, which has improved my communication skills and cultural awareness. University has helped me become more independent, responsible, and confident in managing my time and workload. Another great aspect is the support services available to students. Whether academic guidance, career advice, or wellbeing support, there are systems in place to help students succeed. The campus environment is welcoming and encourages both personal and professional development. One of the more challenging aspects has been balancing academic pressure with other responsibilities, especially during assignment deadlines and exam periods. Sometimes workload from multiple modules can feel intense. Additionally, while facilities are good, access to certain resources during peak times can be limited, which can make studying more difficult. Overall, my university experience has been very positive. The challenges have helped me grow stronger and more organised, and the supportive learning environment makes it a great place to study. Improvements could focus on spreading assessments more evenly and increasing access to study spaces during busy periods

One of the best aspects of my course is the way it combines theoretical knowledge with practical application. As a Mechanical Engineering student, I appreciate that the course is structured to develop both analytical skills and real-world engineering understanding. The blended learning approach works well, as lectures provide core concepts while tutorials and lab sessions allow us to apply what we’ve learned. Using engineering software and working on design-based assignments has helped me build industry-relevant skills. Another positive aspect is the accessibility of lecturers. They are knowledgeable and supportive, and they encourage questions and discussion. When I have needed clarification, I have found them approachable and willing to provide additional guidance. The course also promotes independent learning, which has helped me improve my research and problem-solving skills. One of the more challenging aspects of the course is the intensity of the workload, particularly during assessment periods. Deadlines from multiple modules sometimes overlap, which can create pressure. Additionally, some topics can be quite complex and fast-paced, especially in higher-level modules, which requires strong time management and self-discipline to keep up. In terms of improvement, spacing out assessments more evenly and incorporating slightly more practical or industry-based case studies could enhance the learning experience further. Overall, the course has been academically challenging but highly rewarding, helping me grow technically, professionally, and personally.
