overall my experience at this university hasn't been bad at all, but i would say that for some reason i was very unlucky with my supervisor. For some reason everyone got assigned a supervisor from first year, but mine kept changing evey term or so and they never checked up on me and i do beluve that having a supervisor can be very helpful.
Other than that, student life is quite nice, there's always something going on on campus and activities from your college. there's also so many societies to join which is a great way to be more integrated at uni.

the good thing about my course is that it is relatively easy to catch up on and most lectures are recorded. lecturers are actually very helpful and always open to personal meetings whether on zoom or in person. but i do think that the marketing course is slightly neglected form the univeristy, we don't have a specific building or area where we have our lectures and seminars, sometimes we can have an hour in alcuin then the hour right after in james which is a 10-15min walk so we were always stressed and in a hurry. i think that the way the hours are distributed in the course are actually really impractical and i wished we had more of a say for our hours.

I love how the campus at York is layed out because it makes me feel like I can be a part of nature and there's plenty of green space which is nice to walk around especially on the way to lectures. The green space also doesn't feel forced like some of the other campuses at unis I considered.
There's lots of places to study at York as well, I particularly like the library and the church lane building because there's plenty of facilities that make it possible to spend block periods of time in there. There's also areas in the library to do self care related things like colouring etc. I like church lane because the atmosphere in there is really nice to study with the moss along the walls and it's a nice quiet place to go between lectures.
I think the worst aspect of my uni experience so far was some of the lecturers I had for my first modules weren't very engaging and their lectures were difficult to understand. When I spoke to my supervisor about this, however, she made me aware of some ways I could report this to the uni and advice on how to complete the module.
Another thing is that in my college there's not nearly as many activities as the other colleges. Some colleges do craft nights, bingo nights, film nights, self care nights etc and my college only ever seems to do the bare minimum. This is good but in comparison to the offerings from my friends college it's a bit disappointing.

The way my course is taught is with 10 contact hours a week and then readings afterwards for each module. I have 3 lectures a week and a seminar/workshop for each lecture after it's been done. I like how the seminars are layed out this semester but last semester it was difficult to keep up with what was happening because some of the workshops and seminars were done before the lectures so instead of recapping and building on what we'd done in that weeks lecture we were relying on reading and pretty much seeing the concepts for the first time. I also only really had one seminar leader that made seminars seem worth turning up to. This has changed in module 2 because the lecturers are also the seminar leaders for the modules and it makes everything flow better, makes the seminars more engaging and helps me have access to the right people if I need help with the work.
I did notice that there's much more of a focus on independent study which I found difficult to adjust to because I was so used to having more contact hours in sixth form. I'm getting used to it but I still wish there was more contact hours, perhaps through lectures or such so I didn't have to do as much independent study.
I really enjoy my semester 2 modules so far but the first semester was done as a whole with everyone in the business department and more generalised. I found the modules to be quite boring and really difficult to keep up with because I wasn't enjoying them as much. I also didn't understand some of the concepts from the one module where our lecturer wasn't the best so I ended up really stressed trying to get the exam done at the end.
Overall though, my lecturers have all been more than happy to help me if I had issues at any point. I contacted both the lecturers and seminar leaders at multiple points along the course and I've got prompt replies and helpful suggestions.

What do you think about the safety, condition, location and cost of your accommodation?
I love the location of my college because it's right next to the bus stop so it's easy to get the bus that goes into town. It's also close to the on campus shops so I can easily go and get essentials like milk whenever I need them. I like how it's about a 20 minute walk from where I have my lectures so it helps separate my study from my home space. The college itself is well maintained and kept clean, a cleaner comes once a week to do the kitchen and halls so it's never dirty.
Whenever I've had an issue with something breaking, I've been able to submit a request and someone has been to fix my issue the same day or early the next day which I really appreciate. The campus security is also really good, there's always someone on patrol making sure the area is safe and there's an app to report it if you're not. It makes me feel really safe across both campuses knowing I have this ability to have campus security come to me if needed.
One thing I don't like is my colleges facilities, our hub building is the forum and compared to other colleges it is pretty bad. The other college hubs on campus have access to pool tables, dart boards, ping pong etc. In Constantine we have this but most of the equipment is broken or missing. We also have instruments that are broken, like a guitar with a cracked in half neck. It's a bit sad because If the forum was a bit better I know for a fact me and my flatmates would visit more often but as it stands there's never anything in there worth going to. That makes it feel much less of a community than other colleges because I only really ever interact with people from my flat because of it.
