Tell us about your overall university experience so far.
Having been to University at Plymouth, I can't imagine going anywhere else! I thoroughly enjoyed my time here and would recommend Plymouth to anyone! I've developed not only my academic knowledge but also as an individual and my experiences have really shaped who I am, for the better.
I can't fault the experience.
Facilities
How good are your university's facilities?
For my course, Marine Biology, it's easily the best place to study in the UK. The marine station is brand new and top of the range! You can always see new buildings or facilities going up and the University has clearly invested a lot over the past few years in redeveloping the campus.
Student support
How good is the support offered by the uni? Think both academic (tutors/feedback) and personal (counselling, etc).
Although I haven't needed student support, I have plenty of friends who have, and who have told me how impressed they were. From support with English or maths, to disability assist and dyslexia testing, it's all there!
Students' union
What do you think of your Students' Union in terms of student representation and facilities?
Epic. The students union at Plymouth is great for a night out, no question....but since being revamped, it's a fab place to hang out during the day too. With costa coffee, a juice bar, volunteering hub, AND canteen, the SU is now full of students studying, hanging out and there is always something on! And in the evening: silent discos, foam parties, fancy dress and more!
It's an SU run by the students, for the students!
Local life
Is your university in a good location in terms of distance to accommodation and local amenities?
I love Plymouth, it's so different to back home. From my first visit to the city, I felt welcomed and comfortable, everyone's so friendly, chilled out and really genuine. I can't imagine leaving now!
Societies and Sports
How would you rate the variety of societies/sports?
I can't even begin to list ALL the things that I got involved with at University. Clubs and societies were great fun and I made so many friends who I'll never forget! I had the opportunity to take part in sports for fun, but I also represented the University, competing against other HE institutions.
Lecturers and teaching quality
What do you like most and least about the way your course(s) are taught?
Not only did I get taught by some of the best researchers in the area, I also got the opportunity to egg valuable lab experience by supporting lecturers with their ongoing research. Teaching was varied, with lectures, seminars, labs, and fieldwork all central to the course.
Career prospects
How does your uni make efforts to increase your employability (careers department, work placements, transferable skills)?
After graduating, I spent some time working in schools and gaining some experience, I worked across the UK and also had the opportunity to travel to Abu Dhabi with work. Less than 4 months after graduating, I was head hunted for a position and have subsequently been made permanent with that company.
University halls
What do you think about the safety, condition, location and cost of your accommodation?
The accommodation at Plymouth is so close to the University camps and city centre! I've stayed with friends at other Universities and there's no comparison. Plymouth is cheaper, closer and nicer! Than a lot of other places I've stayed.
